I discovered this crack in a customer regulator right in the sharp 90 degree bend in the top box. After overhauling several hundred US Divers regulators, I've never seen this before and it took a while for me to see it. But after looking at the extreme bend that is made in this section of the box, I guess I'm not surprised that a stress crack could occur here. Has anyone else ever seen one cracked like this?

Dan
Never saw one crack. Can the crack be brazed shut? I'd be heart-broken if that happened to my DA. Wonder if someone put the clamps on too tight?

I have seen cracks in the rim but not in that location.

I've never seen a crack in this location before. It would nearly have to be a defect in the metal during the forming process. I've got a couple of very old boxes, and they don't show any sign of this cracking. I don't think it could be done simply by "putting the clamps on too tight."

I have tried to sliver solder a crack in a US Divers box, and it became warped beyond repair. If it's cracked it's only good for display.

Maybe clamping the boxes together didn't start the problem, but it might have been the final straw. Too bad you couldn't use a steel epoxy or putty, but it seems it would crack again there when the boxes are clamped together again, no matter what.

Thanks Terry, I was just guessing.
