Sorry, Can't send PM. AOyuk is messing with my head! Rob hope you get to read this. Sorry for late notice.
Hey Robb (aka OystrPir8),
We are diving the Feather River Saturday (tomorrow), in Oroville, CA, around 11:30 to 11:45am if your interested. Lots of salmon; as, they haven't opened the fish ladders yet. They run until November. Water temps are a nice 60 degrees now so I get to wear a shorty (with less weights) now. It gets colder in the winter time. Also less salmon after they open the gates. To find us go to the Oroville Nature Center. Make a left turn just past the intersection of Mongomery St, & Table Mountain Blvd. If you can't locate the Nature Center (old swim house) ask at the Boss Burger. This is fresh water so you'll need 4 pounds less weight than what you use in the ocean.
Robert
Anyone else can join us, for a great dive, also!

Robb,
I've been diving it about every week or two lately. If you bring your family, the diving is across from the Feather River Hatchery (the largest fish hatchery in the world) and the Oroville Dam (one mile across) isn't too far away. Maybe you all could get a tour of the power plant (very impressive!). I've never dove the Lake; but, a friend of mine told me there is a place were you can get big crystals a little ways from Lime Saddle Marina. He said I'd have to have a boat to get there. My boat still needs a lot of work on it. It needs a 70 gal. gas tank also.

In 1954 I went to see the Disney classic 20,000 leagues under the sea. In the previews they ran the upcoming film. "Charge at feather river" It was in 3D !!! You wore glasses which made the arrows, thousands of them shoot right out of the screeen at you! After the preview, we searched the theatre but found no arrows! Did you find any arrowheads on the bottom? I assume it was filmed on actual location a big production like that! Those arrows had to go somewhere.................

Wow, I wonder if they filmed it there. Before Oroville Dam was built the River was fifty foot deep where we are diving. Now, the deepest my depth gauge has recorded is 40 feet. Usually we're at depths of 20 to 30 feet. To deep for the salmon to spawn. I'd like to get pictures of them spawning, though. The salmon got to go way far up stream to spawn and that is blocked by the dams. They also have to be in shallow water. Another example of man distroying nature by building dams.
We had a great dive yesterday. Still have to get the pictures done. One guy had walked down the rocks to the east side of the fish barrier dam and told us to go around the rocks and look at the salmon. We did so. Wow !!! 20 to 30 salmon staring us in the face !!! I mean like 6 inches from my mask !!! There were lots of bubbles in the water from the water falling from the dam, and I was letting my dive buddy use my camera, hope the pictures turn out !!! I might make extra cd's to send to Linda so she can post them so everyone can see the diving. I use 28.8k modem and AOL; so, it takes me forever to upload to photobucket, if AOL lets me stay online.
After the dive, we went to Boss Burgers; then, there was a big fire not very far from were we were diving. I got a great picture of the helo dumping water on the fire I'll also have to share.
After that I went to Jacks place and helped gobble up some abs he got at Ft. Bragg. Yummy for my Tummy !!!
Well, that's what I did yesterday. Any one else have 20 or so forty pound fish swim right up to their mask reciently?

Chuck,
I'll have to check out the movie from the Library. They have it on VCR tape; so, I'll have to get a vcr hooked up to see it. I'll let you know if they filmed where we are diving. It would be cool if they showed the old bridge (which is now underwater). I swam under it treasure hunting yesterday. Didn't find anything.

Hi again,
Got some great pictures to share. AOL giving me headaches (what else is new?). I need pictures for dive club meeting tuesday.
Linda, if I send pictures to you can you scan them for everyone to see after the meeting?
Jim, Did you dive the Feather River by the Hatchery when you was stationed at Beale? Have you been to the Boss Burger (.99 cent hambergers on Wend. and Sunday)?
Chuck, I still haven't found arrow heads yet. Most interesting thing found so far was a solid silver token, about 2" diameter, Fritzgerald Casino in Reno, NV. Dale found it. Dated before it pre 1974 (that's when the gov. made it illegal for casinos to use silver for tokens). All I've found was a china saucer with a copywrite date on it of 1923. Except for the algea stains, from years in the river, it's in good condition. Last year the dive club did a river clean up and we took out about forty bicycles and a few shopping carts from around the Table Mtn. Blvd. bridge.
I think the third weekend in Sept. the Maidu tribe has a Salmon Festival. After that the fish ladder to the hatchery gets opened and the amount of salmon in the river will decrease. I got to get some diving in before that. I have to take alot of pictures to put up in the Nature Center for the Festival. About 600 people a day went to the Nature Center last year during the Festival.
