Date is Sept. 25 at Bannings Landing, site of the old Sparling Diving School. There will be some interesting speakers and great displays of vintage equipment. Dan is going to be there!
I thought about going, but I just have a million of my own projects going on right now...
But Dan is definitely going.

Well, I'm sure Dan has a lot more in common with you, too, "scuba-wise".... But I am a lot better looking.

Hey All, Finally got our computer working again & thought I'd let you know about the HDS Conference. It was a great weekend, finally got to meet Dan. Also met Ryan, another member here, as well as numerous others with diving history interests, all of them great people. Speakers at the conference had some good presentations. Phil Nuytten, president of HDS Canada & inventor of the Newt Suit, gave a talk on the contributions of Emile Gagnan and the development of the Aqua Lung. He gave out a great outline booklet that was worth the price of admission. Philippe Rousseau, vice-president of HDS France talked about the Commeinhes Scuba Apparatus, a self contained unit developed at the same time as the Aqua Lung, and had a rare working model on display. Sid Macken gave an informative talk on the devolpment of underwater photography, focusing on lesser known contributors to this field. And most entertaining was Norma Hanson, author and Women Divers Hall of Fame member, who shared experiences of her and husband Al's hard hat diving career. An Awards Banquet Saturday night rounded out the day, where more great film footage was shown, especially one by Ralph White, veteran submersible and research diver. On Sunday, the California Classic Equipment Divers put on a dive demonstration, giving many of us an oppurtunity to helmet dive. That was a great experience! Many of us also spent a lot of time in the water with double hose rigs. Mark Howell, HDS & CCED member had some really cool restored equipment he was diving. It was a fantastic weekend, big fun, wish you all could have been there.
