Hello to the Vintage Divers of Hawaii on this Board. I'm currently writing to you from Naval Station Pearl Harbor where I'm spending the next 2 weeks on Annual Training with the Navy. I brought some of my gear and would like to possibly get together and do some vintage diving or get some suggestions on where to go diving. PM (or email) me if you have any suggestions or would like to get together for some diving. Thanks from a member who calls Florida home. Regards, Joe

Aloha Joe, you are in luck, at least two members live here. Turtleguy9 and Justleesa. If you want to see what we look like check in the photo contributions part of this Forum. I am a full time scuba instructor here in Waikiki, and Justleesa comes out on the boat with me about 3 times a week. If you want some regular diving or vintage diving no problem. I am now working at www.diveoahu.com , well at least thats the website. you can contact me at 808-924-3204 home. The dive shop owner has no problem with what he calls my Smithstonian Museum Dive Gear. It would be great if we could do some vintage diving while you are here. Its loads of fun diving warm clear water, and doing a shipwreck, using vintage gear. Aloha Roger

Hawaii update. I went diving today (10/07/2004) with Roger (Turtleguy9) & Lisa (Justleesa) off of Waikiki. It was absolutely awesome! The first dive was on the wreck Sea Tiger. I dove it with my Trieste II (that Dan rebuilt for me), my USD Super Rocket fins, my SeaTec horse collar BC (that I bought from Sam Miller) and twin 72s (that Roger let me use for the dive). I was extremely fortunate to have Lisa as my buddy and we dove the wreck together and took many pictures. Our max depth was 105ft and our bottom time was 34 minutes. After our safety stop we surfaced and the dive boat made its way to the next dive site. Upon our arrival at the new site Lisa and I were the first in the water. Lisa used a Voit Swimmaster and I believe twin 38s (I dove this one with modern gear). We descended down to the coral reef were Lisa found a White Tip Reef Shark! We took more pictures and I proceeded to lose my camera! After some rapid nervous breathing Lisa found it for me and I ensured that the wrist lanyard was actually fastened tightly this time. We swam further along the reef until I noticed that my digital camera had flooded for some unknown reason (since it had worked perfectly on the first and much deeper dive). We ascended and made our safety stop and then boarded the dive-boat so I could assess the damage. Our max depth for this dive was 44ft with a bottom time of 26 minutes. Even with my camera problems I had an incredible time! Roger and Lisa were incredible and very hospitable. I highly recommend that you make a trip to Hawaii and make sure that you contact Roger & Lisa. They are the best!!!! ;D Aloha

It was absolutely awesome! Joe, Great reading your post!!!! "...my SeaTec horse collar BC (that I bought from Sam Miller)..." Sea Tec certainly made a tough comfortable unit. Happy to hear that you are making use of it I am still using a Sea Tec horse collar and a Sea Tec Manta BIU. After you finish diving Wash it out side and inside with a squit of Downey, blow it up to dry and to store and it will last for a very long time "...We swam further along the reef until I noticed that my digital camera had flooded for some unknown reason (since it had worked perfectly on the first and much deeper dive..." I haven't found an Underwater Camera that I couldn't flood--If there was a Olympic event for camera flooding I feel confident that I would have several gold medals. (And I taught UW photography for a number of years at the college level) Certainly don't let this discourage you-- consider yourself fortunate to have visited the world underwater. And so it is in the "Days of our Dives" SDM 30

Thanks Sam for your post.
The SeaTec BC worked perfectly! I felt completely comfortable with it during the entire dive. It was a pleasure to dive with.
I appreciate your advice and will follow the procedures you have outlined so that I can enjoy this BC for years to come.
You'll be glad to know that I didn't let my cameras untimely "death" get me down. I'm even looking for a new one to replace it and have signed up for 4 more days of diving. ;D
Regards,
Joe

Aloha Joe Sorry I didn't get to do a vintage dive with you, but at least you got to vintage dive with Lisa. You can see how hectic teaching scuba can be, always changes in my plans. It was nice getting to go as a dive guide on a few of your dives, as its a lot less stressful than, doing those introductory classes. I promise next year, to get a Day off, so we can do a better job of it. I still have not had the chance to get my rebuilt DA out for a dive. Aloha Roger "aka" Turtleguy9
