>:(If AOL blocks emails from Proboards, maybe there is a reason for doing it. Why don't you scrap Proboard and move to Yahoogroups. Our club, Inland Divers Vintage Dive Club, has no trouble with Yahoogroups for our message board. And I do like to be different, thats why I'm a vintage diver. And I also voted for Ross Perot for president, so there. VintageDiverMN

I used to read alot of the vintage scuba boards on Yahoo. Then they started getting spammed to bits! I don't want any invitations to come see someone on their video cam doing indecent things.

Yahoo has to much spam, to little control and there is no way to get out of it once in. I don't yahoo. No thanks. James

. This new board does not allow aol to register? Oh well, what shall I ever do. Nemrod aka James Actually James, it's the other way around -- AOL will not allow their users to receive email from Proboards. It's a spam-blocking thing, to prevent unwanted mass registrations... Proboards DOES allow aol to register, if AOL would only allow the registration email to arrive! Frans, I'm sorry, but I am not going to scrap all the information in this forum and tell over 200 people that we are "moving" - especially not just for one person. Besides, I have always thought the layout at Yahoo.... umm... sucks. It's slow, full of ads, and you have to constantly load a new screen to read everything. I am also completely baffled about the direction of your frustration... I understand your frustration... I would be frustrated as well. So much so, that if I had an email server that was presumptious enough to tell me which of my emails I could see or not see, I would leave 'em so fast their head would spin. Did you add "nobody@proboards.com" to your list of acceptable addresses, and try again? Did you try the yahoogroups email address? I am willing to help you, but I am not moving the entire forum. Ryan, I totally agree with you. Just my own humble opinion, but AOL was designed for those who are clearly not computer savvy. It's like having training wheels on a bike. They add protection, but they are confining... If one decides to never give up the training wheels, one has to live within the confines.

Forgot to say, James, if there is a way I can help you register, too, please let me know.
I would really like SOME user to be willing to try adding "nobody@proboards.com" to their list of acceptable addresses to see if that works...
Also I don't know anything about being an actual AOL user... Don't they have a customer service phone number? Some kind of tech support? It would be nice to contact them and ask them if it's possible to let ALL emails get through, and one could set up their OWN filters.

Hi all Come on guys give Linda a rest she's doing a grand job. I am an AOL user, not very computer literate and yes I did have problems, but all I did was typed in www.yahoo.co.uk (com) clicked on mail, registered, got my new email then chaged it on the activation page on VSB got my number thingy and Hey Presto....Still with AOL and still on the board. Thanks, Kim - I am trying to help, but I think Frans doesn't really want to use the "work-around" (getting an alternate email address...) so I'm still trying to figure out how to make AOL work. Frans, and other AOL users: I went to AOL Help myself, and found their instructions for "Cannot Receive E-mail from Specific Sender". For instructions: CLICK HERE Type "Cannot Receive E-mail from Specific Sender" into the search window. The article comes up second on the list.... If that doesn't work for you, I don't know what will... But just to be clear, the problem IS on your end... The registration email is going out, but you are not receiving it because of AOL... Follow the instructions on that page and it should fix you up.

Linda, You and Ryan are 100% correct in your assessment of this situation! Eventually, if you ever want to ride the bike, you need to remove those AOL "training wheels".

AOL is like many things, when all your friends are on it the convience is simply to great. I use Mozzila FireFox for a browser/web surfer. Some people see no value in permenance but I do and there are people all over the country I correspond with if only infrequently and they always know where to find me. That comes of living in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Kansas and having family and friends spread all over the globe. Recently a young friend of mine was in Iraq with the Army, his parents and sister decided to switch servers. Mail runs kinda slow so believe it or not the only way he got in contact with them was via me and good old aol. He knew I would be here. Filters can be set on AOL, mine is set to a medium level and that is not the problem with my registering, I suspect I have some other problem or perhaps no problem. I live in an area that does not have cable or DSL, ---period--it is not available. I get TV from a satilite dish and their rates are very high. AOL really works best most of the time for me given a dial up modem service, when we get DSL--whenever tht happens I will hop to some other arrangement. Ya know, since aol added all the filtering, I don't get virus attacks, I don't get spam, I don't have many problems my city friends at work have with their services. I will try and register again this weekend when I have time to play on the computer. James

I see the value in what you are saying, but you don't have to have AOL to have that kind of network. And you don't have to have AOL to use the AOL Instant Messenger... I have it, and I can see all my "buddies" there whether they are AOL users or not. It IS a handy messenger, it's true. Dan and I have used it a lot when he has gone out of town.
We only have dial-up here, too. Only $6.95/month. Very reliable connection and great customer service. What do you pay for AOL?

It showed you as logged in yesterday morning, so I had hope! Darn. If you would just use an alternate email address it would work! Get one at Yahoo or Hotmail. You could just use it for the forum, and then use the "hidden" feature, and you'd never have to check that email (once you got your registration key). Then maybe put your AOL email address in some other field in your profile... like the "web site" field. There ARE work-arounds, although I know it's not as nice as just being able to use your AOL address. You only have to log in as a guest if you aren't willing to use the "work-arounds"...

Hi again Getting a different email address didn't change anything only the fact I could receive the activation code on it. My AOL address is still on my profile. Good Luck Kim
