Welcome, hagan. The Mistral is a fine regulator. Make sure you understand the differneces in diving double hose versus single hose regulators and do some practice sessions before taking to the open water.

Welcome aboard I love my mistrals. If you didn't know Cousteau & Co dove Mistrals on the Britannic with a helium mix to near 400'. I have only had mine to down half that but and it performed exceptionally well. Great simple reg to learn to service. -Ryan

Welcome aboard Hagan! Yes Ryans right about about servicing the Mistral. A very simple design. The only trouble I have is getting that little O ring out. I have a devil of a time with those. Anybody got any tricks? The Mistrals are good diving reg's. I have a Warner address and I just picked up a Pico. I also own a Stream Air which is it's predecessor. Not a bad reg in it's own right. I haven't dove that one yet other then in a pool. It's coming to SDV with me for a more extensive test. Enjoy your new reg. Check out the technigue section on this site for things like proper regulator placement and things like clearing the mouth piece. If you can get your hands on a copy, check out Basic Scuba, by Fred Roberts copy write 1962 (?) That's a real wealth of information.

I have 4 of the black & yellow suits in my collection including one of J.Y. Cousteau's personal suits. There are dozens of suits in the Cousteau warehouse but they are unwilling to part with them. I filled a crate 4ft by 4ft by 8ft to the top with both black and silver suits when I was at the warehouse. Before I organized them they were strewn about and heaped together in piles. At least now they will last a bit longer. There are quite a few of the suits out there in peoples collections. You never know what you might find. You can see my Cousteau collection at www.flashbackscuba.com including the tanks used on the Britannic expedition. -Ryan

Find "The New Science of Skin and Scuba Diving" from the 1960s for a good book on vintage diving technique specific to double hose regulators.
