I'm trying to refurbish the label on a Spiro Royal Mistral regulator that I purchased but I am not 100% sure what colors should be on the label. On Stuarts site he says the label should be brass with chrome highlights. When I look at other examples on the internet the label appears to have a brass background with blue and yellow lettering?
If anyone has further info, photos or web site leads please E-mail me or send me the links to the site.

Bryan,
I have a book, This is Diving, by Duilio Marcante, United Nautical Publishers S.A., Basel, Switzerland, 1976; First published in the United States 1977 by SAIL BOOKS, INC, 38 Commercial Wharf, Boston, Massachusetts. On page 36 of this book, it shows what appears to be a Royal Mistral. It has a round label, with the words MISTRAL prominently displayed and a crown above it. The crown and word Mistral are yellow (brass?), the immediate background (inverted L) is blue, and the rest of the circle is black. It looks like the area for the serial number is chrome. I hope this helps.

You are right John, I've seen one that the background was black. Then on another picture it looked brass color! I've E-mailed Eric in France for advice as well.
Thanks for the reply! Most appreciated.

In the same book I mentioned above, they show an intriguing "combined backpack." Basically, it appears to be a double tank rig, which accomodates the Royal Mistral and a second regulator for the "safe second," in an integrated backpack that looks like the UDS-1 system. But this one is usable by double hoser regulators too. It appears to be a La Spirotechnique unit, vintage approximately 1976. Anyone know about the "combined pack"? Are there any still around, or is it still being made by La Spiro?

I believe that the tank pack you are referring to is the one manufactured by Spiro and used by The Cousteau Team. The pack was originally yellow and black and later silver and black. It contained dual 72's that were inverted with valves for each tank on the bottom. The lower manifold was connected two a second valve at the top via stainless tubing. It would then accept a standard yoke attachment. The pack had a storage area for your mask etc. They are no longer in production as far as I know. I am working on making a replica that is very similar in appearance but works with a standard non isolation manifold and a double hose reg. I don't have plans for large scale production but if there are people interested I may make them available on a custom order basis in either yellow or silver. The project is still in the prototype phase. I am also completing a replica of the Cousteau helmet & light set-up. I have pics available if anyone is interested. One of the former lead divers of the Cousteau Team has consulted on the project and the light is waterproof to 500 feet. -Ryan

Ryan,
We need to talk a bit about what you are doing. I spent quite a bit of time evaluating the UDS-1, and have one of the only functioning UDS-1 systems in the United States right now. Please PM me at:
