Being a "newby member" of this board, I have been reading with great enthusiasm and interest the many posts dealing with vintage dive gear. I started diving in 1962, dove until 1972, took a 27 year hiatus and am now a divemaster looking to recapture his youth. Slowly I have tried to obtain via Ebay, Vintage Scuba Supply, etc all the dive equipment I started with and later sold to get money for children, house, etc. So far I have been reasonably successful as I have most of the gear I began with, however a day at the dive store I work for revealed a bit of gear I had forgotten about. My weight belt had a buckle sold by USD in 1961 or 62 called a "Safe E-Z" buckle. The dive store had one which I hope I can show you on this forum. Needless to say, the owner won't part with it. Thus, I turn to this forum. Does anyone have one that they would be willing to sell me? Again if this link will work, here is the original catalog (1960) description: If the links don't work, Linda help please! Thanks.

I have two of them, but I haven't yet considered selling one. Please note that they also came with a clip that attached to the crotch strap, and that this was used to attach the weights to that strap. My understanding, and I've done some analysis of this aspect from Cousteau photos, is that this buckle was used on European systems for the weight belt, and the clip for the cratch strap attached to the weight belt. Europeans did not use a waist strap on their scuba, and instead depended upon this type a system. That is why the shoulder strap on an European system is so much lower on the tanks (no waist strap), with the crotch strap attaching directly into the weight belt. I've tried it on a modified military harness, and it works pretty well as long as there is some tension on the crotch strap.

Thanks Linda. I tried, as you know the usual html language to insert the images. I am not sure what I did wrong that prevented the images from being accessed from my hosting site. Oh, I also used my name and not my internet id of simonbeans. Thanks John for the info. When you want to sell one of the buckles, I will be interested.

I've got two of those buckles, but mine were made in France, where I took my dive training in 1958-59. I might part with one. What do you have to trade? Frans Carlson

I am also looking for 2 or 3 of these buckles for a project I'm working on. I have done some looking and they appear to have been much more common in Europe. There is one listed on ebay France but they do not ship internationally. Perhapse one on the European members of the board might have better luck finding a source. If anyone finds a lead I would love to hear from you. -Ryan

Ryan I have had no luck in getting one. There is one of the replies to my inquiry that is willing to trade. You can read back up the tread and find out who. His trade offer to me was way too rich for my blood. Maybe you may have something to trade that would be more to his liking. Allan

Thanks. A nice ebay and vintage board watcher gave me the heads up on the stuff yesterday. I put it on my watch list and will monitor the auction. There is a lot of other gear that will be back on ebay if I decide to go for it. Thanks again.

Ryan I, of course, am very interested in the buckle. Is it of the same design? I am still watching the ebay pile of gear that has one it in. I haven't decided to bid on the stuff and then try to ebay the rest off or maybe contact the winner and make an offer. In any case your post sounds good. Allan
