Jaybird, Hass did not like this poster and I've heard that he stayed away from the US for a long time because of it. Hass was a scientist, a naturalist, and for his time very environmentally conscious. He did not like the way Hollywood dramatized the undersea world and made sharks the villian. That said, as a piece of poster art, it is really cool.

Sid, I was trying to stay away from the snarky comments I'm glad that you said something about the shark--I didn't like that either! I thought it was funny that the woman doesn't have a mask on, also, notice the guy on the right... he's upside down--quite literally! He has a completely different light source than everyone else... It is interesting that Lotte Hass turned down several Hollywood offers for the same reason that Sid said Hans objected to the poster above. She could have been a movie star, and instead choose her marriage and the sea! We all have to make choices, and she made the correct one, IMHO.

That poster is kinda like when I used to buy comic-books as a kid: the covers were always super-cool with all sorts of junk happening and I couldn't wait to read it, only to find, "HEY, WAIT A SECOND... none of that ever happened!" I s'pose it was to get meat-heads into the theater and I can see one of two scenarios happening, "Dang, that was cool, I gotta get me some of that scuba gear...", or,"That was totally stupid, but the chick was really hot..."
