Well reading the want old books wanted list of Dans really cost me some$$$ I had to order few of the rare titles for winter reading. My book shelve has a few of them he is looking for already but not all. There are a few not on that list but belong there. I pulled them down and they are-
We come from the sea-by Hans Hass 1959-great photos
Spearfishing handbook for beginners -by I.S. Ivanovic its printed in Great Britan published by A.S> Barnes and company-no year on it Its full of great photos of Hans Has and others-my guess late 40's and early 50's by the gear. Some very Vintage gear in almost all photos.
Diving Cutting and Welding in Underwater Savage Operations-by Frank E. Thompson-1944 reprinted in 1977 by Cornell maritime Press,Inc Cambridge Maryland This book has some classic shallow water photos-also some pearl harbor salvage shots. Its another in the series -the others are Marine salvage operations-Underwater work-Dan mentions these in his want list but this one is not on it and should be. I have some others but its late. Mark

In my library is:
Skin Diving, by Joan and Van Ellman, The Young Sportsman's Library, Thomas Nelson & Sons, New York and Toronto, 1961.
Skin Divers In Action, by Erik Bergaust and William Foss, G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1965.
The latter book was discarded from a school library in Glide, Oregon, and I think I got it for twenty-five cents.
I also have:
Inner Space, by Cdr. M. Scott Carpenter, Century Monographics #5, Little Brown and Company, Boston, 1969. This book has a lot of the SeaLab photos in it.

Collins' Down to the sea with books: NAUI International Bibliography of Diving and Related Sciences (1973) lists two titles by I. S. (Vane) Ivanović: Ivanović, I. S. Spearfishing. New York, New York: A. S. Barnes and Company, 1951. Ivanović, I. S. Modern Spearfishing. New York, New York: A. S. Barnes and Company, 1955. There's a longer list of editions of these books at Classic Dive Bookswhich mentions a book entitled Sub-marine Spearfishing, published by Nicholas Kaye of London in 1951, but no mention of "Spearfishing for beginners". The page has pictures of the book covers: On my bookshelf, I have copies of the last two of these, namely Modern Spearfishing, 1955, apparently a first edition (purchased for £2.50), published by Nicholas Kaye of London; and Modern Spearfishing, published by Henry Regnery of Chicago, bought for £2.75 but sadly not a first edition, though loved nevertheless!
