I have picked up a US Divers Deep II regulator, it looks pretty mint. I have not collected enough of the later USD catalogs, to know what the production dates of this reg are? Thanks Turtleguy9

Could it possibly be the Deep Star? Or a Deep star 11?
Has a very large first stage about the size of a can of beans?
Please advise and/or post a picture.

Aloha SDM You were right, it is a deepstar II It does have a massive first stage, looks to be one high pressure port, and one low pressure port. Thanks Turtleguy9

Very poor design--a few heads toppled at US Divers when this one came on the market.
Very nosey breathing regulator. Very poor performance.
Was on the market for a short time--one or two years.
Probably a collectors item since so few sold.
Think--the lack of multi-ports should provide a clue as to when it was produced
I will let the others on the list inform you when it was marketed.

Aloha Vintage Divers Here is what I have found about the Deep Star II " There were two Deep Stars produced by USDivers, #1 & #2. Deep Star #1 was introduced in the 1967 US Divers catalog as part #1056 and listed for $45.00. It remained in the catalog until 1969 Deep Star #2 was introduced in 1970 on page 3 of the US Divers catalog as part # 1073 and listed for $60.00 retail. It was easy to identify with its large over size first stage which was about the same diameter as a Campbell soup can! It was very noisey cumbersome regulator and only lasted until 1971. It should be considered a very rare collectors item due to its unique first stage." Turtleguy9

I recently picked up a Deep Star (1) in excellent condition. I went through it this weekend to give it a good cleaning, replace the seats, the o-rings and the typically crispy exhaust valve.
I was actually pretty impressed with the use of plastic backing rings on the piston o-rings, which seems to be a feature that has only recently resurfaced on modern regulators.
The piston head is a bit larger than the piston head in a Scubapro Mk 3 but the orifice appeared to be slightly smaller. The combination of a relatively large piston head and small orifice should give it a relatively stable IP (for an unbalanced piston first stage), but the small orifice looks like a fairly serious limitation for any deep diving. It appears to be a fairly well made regulator but "Deep Star" strikes me as a bit of a misnomer.
Does anyone have comments they could share on diving with one of these or with the Healthways Scuba Star?
