I have a quickie question about Aqualung yokes.
When they switched from the metal bar/wing nut style yoke screw to the ones that looked like little wheels/tires did they actually change the yoke at all, or was it simply a change in what you hold onto to screw the yoke on?

Not totaly sure. I have a hand held USD pressure guage which has the wing nut but has a deeper yoke than my Mistral. I also have a Calypso first stage whcih has the tire and it also is deeper. My Calypso J first stage is deeper as well than the Mistral yoke but is built on to the body. It is my belief therefore that there was a transition period where there were deeper yokes with the wingnut clamp. I also believe this yoke from the Calypso 1st stage would in fact fit on to my Mistral and would probably then allow a banjo fitting to be used. Is this correct? Nemrod

Not completely sure but I believe there are minor differences between the single hose and two hose yokes in the area where the yoke nut fits. Ther Mistral and Aqua Master yoke are different. The hole that slips over the hp body is smaller on the Mistral.

I am currently in the process of modifying a USD pressure tester yoke to fit my Mistral. My initial impression was that once bored out to the proper diameter, the yoke would be long enough to accomodate a banjo fitting as it appears to be adequately longer than the short yoke. However it turns out it isn't quite long enough so I am now filing down the inside of the base of the yoke a bit to make about another 1/8" of clearance.
I think the tire style yoke knob was introduced in 1966 but I am not sure when the long yoke was introduced.

I have an AquaMaster that I bought around 66 or 67 that has the long yoke and tire hand wheel.

The pressure tester yoke is a smaller diameter and would have to be bored out--easy enough. The yoke on the old Calypso (not J) does appear to have the same inside diameter as the Mistral yoke and may also be sligtly longer than the pressure tester yoke. It is also slightly heavier built and has a shiny chrome finish, not the dull or brushed finish. I agree that it was approx 66 when they went to the larger yoke but I think the tire may have predated the larger yoke by a bit. To bad we were not able to keep all those old catalogs that our mothers threw away. Funny thing, I had all the major manufactures from about 63 to 72 when I went away to college, I wonder were they all went? N

I know I have asked questions similar to this before, but my reason for asking this is that I have convertible Thermo brand H valves ( www.diveriteexpress.com/gas/thermo.shtml ) that I want to use with my Aquamaster. These valves are DIN with a removable center plug so you can use them with yoke valves also, however they are slightly wider than normal valves. I was wondering if any of the "stock" types of Aquamaster yoke would fit...

In answer to my own question... Yes the tire wheel yokes fit over the thermo valve. How do I know this you ask? The new Aqualung I just got has that yoke ;D
