Hidden amongst the rubble of an ebay "lot" last week. The best pic I have right now is this one from the auction. I've been looking around and found some info on similar WS regulators, but little on this model. Like my Divair, it wasn't described or even mentioned in the ad. I guess it pays to look twice as I almost missed it. Does anyone here have this model? Or any info regarding the model/year etc? DD

Yeah, She'll clean up nicely. Though there is quite the free flow when I apply air. Is the seat reversible on these? More later. Don

Say, that's a right peachy lookin' regulator thar son! So, whar's it comin' frum, the free-flow that is: first or second stage? Try flipping the LP seat over to see if that will fix it. You may be able to flip the HP seat: I use a small Allen-wrench to push them out, they're flat on the end and shouldn't damage the seat. Is it a flow-by, or flow-through? In the HW's, you can't flip the seat, 'cause you can't push them out through the piston...
Gosh, I'll bet that first stage was made by Sherwood, I can prolly get you one if you need it, a seat fer yuz...

that White stag's second is a tilt vlave, and should have a overpressure relief ion the first stage if original.

DD, if that is a tilt-valve, then yes, you'd need a new second stage valve for it . By the design, if your first stage was bad, then it would be impossible to get any air out of it at all without the OPV because it would stick shut: the tank pressure would be forcing it closed with 2,500 psig behind it. Since it does, I hope have an OPV, that would have popped if it was in the first stage. Sorry bruddah! Jaybird

Thanks Jerry, The first stage doesn't have an OPRV, and I didn't know it needed one. Drat! You can pop one in the mail for me when you get back from Mexico, que? Don

DD, did you actually pop the cover off to see if it is a tilt-valve? I know at least from the Healthways and Sportsways, the bodies didn't change from one valve to another...

Also, if I remember correctly these were made by Sportsways(?) I may be wrong, but I recall hearing somewhere that the early Whitestags were just re-branded: like the New England Divers were just re-branded SW's...
Can someone confirm that please?

Jaybird, I've been looking through my materials, and I do have some information about White Stage, but not much. I've also searched on Google and found virtually nothing about White Stage's scuba units. My first and second wetsuits were made by White Stage, here in Portland, Oregon. This is my second wet suit, again by White Stage. Concerning their regulators, I think they were a unique design manufactured for them by Sherwood, not Sportsways. They were more than simply changing the label, which is what New England Divers did for their regulators. White Stag started out as the company, Hirsch-Weis Manufacturing Company. My aunt worked there, and with the money I made one summer picking strawberries and beans, I bought my first wet suit. That was after I had bought my first scuba unit, a Healthways SCUBA regulator and a 38 cubic foot tank. But I froze in the North Santiam River when I dove with David Hadeen, my neighbor, and so was determined to buy a wet suit the next summer (1960). I remember this being a custom-fitted wet suit at their factory in Portland, Oregon. Here is the first wet suit I bought: Concerning their regulators, they got into that aspect of scuba somewhere in the 1960s. Their first regulators were tilt valves, I believe, but then they progressed quickly to downstream valves. I believe the one here is a tilt valve, but if it is and it is leaking through the second stage, it may actually be a downstream second stage. Don, you'll have to pop the cover off to make that determination. The history of White Stage itself is interesting, as it was a fixture in Portland for many years. I know that their later second stages were downstream, as I have two of them, and both are pretty good second stages. My deepest dive wis with a White Stage second stage on an MR-12 first stage, at Warm Mineral Springs to 210 feet. Here's my dive log entry: I liked the White Stag second stage better the MR-12 second stage, as it was plastic, lighter, and seemed more responsive. I still have that second stage, and it's now on a Sportsways first stage. I have two White Stag second stages, and like both. One is metal. I have some sheets, one from White Stage and several from National Scuba Repair, but they don't appear to cover this above regulator. John
