While waiting for my wife to come home last night, I watched this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxJisP8x3OkIt’s an episode of “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau” called, “Search in the Deep of the Oceans”. It’s about exploring “blue holes” and caves. Pretty cool stuff, like where the sonar dome was on the Calypso; it was turned into an observation room! I did note some things though: like JYC using what looked like a non-magnetic U.S. Divers Conshelf VI military regulator, it was black, were they called something else for civilian use, Navcon? Anyway, he took this on a deep cave-dive, and at one point started out-breathing the reg—SCARY! Why was he using that reg, why not a DH, or a newer SH, like a Conshelf-XII: I’m pretty sure it was in the early 1970’s so a newer Conshelf would have been available, with a bigger exhaust port… Also, it looks like they just dumped their torches in the cave once they were used up! At the end of the program, there are two divers using scooters in the water, really zipping around! Their air tanks are on the scooters, neat-o! Jaybird

I have been doing some youtubing recently too and saw that same episode. I bet some was theatrics but it was pretty cool. As far as dumping the flares, I wondered if they were collected or not. Heck in some videos you see them riding turtles and tramping on coral. Back then they didn't know better.

I winced when I saw them drilling a hole into a giant turtle's shell to attach a balloon on one episode, hmmmmm? Do you remember this when you were a kid: 1960-70's?!?!?!?! I sure do. They still have them for the trash recepticals at the Superior Court House in Downtown San Jose, really cool! Jaybird

I did. I often pause those old vids just to check out the cool vintage gear.

Just as a heads up to those of you who are in need of a vintage scuba fix, someone has posted a bunch of episodes of The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau: watch 'em while you can, they get deleted pretty quick I've noticed...
My wife's away on business and I'm recovering from a spinal injection, so I'm bored to tears as of late... dang, I even bought another regulator--SIGH!

Interesting: I just watched one of the episodes where they're in the Antarctic, and they were using Poseidon gear, as in the Cyklon!
