Eben, again thanks for sharing! I wonder what type of regs they were using: there was one that looked like a monster an' I sure hope it was light weight...
The wreck they were diving looked old, as the screw (propeller) only had two blades.

HUH?!??!?!? What the... is that real? That mask looks like it's for a Cyclops : Dang, you'd be sure to get claustrophobia in that sucker: looks like you'd have a pretty high potential to get hurt or hurt someone because there's no peripheral vision! Thanks for sharing Eben Jaybird

Here's a Better View... I like the way the tank/backpack is laid out, but the FFM seems quite a compromise. Jaybird's reference to the tunnel vision is only one aspect; the other is the bubbles obscuring vision with each breath. It is probably a pretty easy breathing regulator, but the bubbles would really inhibit my liking this system. The LaSpiro Mistral was an interesting regulator in this video too. John

Hey John, what's an FFM?

So what if any, is the advantage of having the tank valve down low: is it that you don't have it so close to the diver's head, avoiding that painful "smack-o" you get at times? I see that the Scott SCBA's still have that configuration, or at least the ones I'm used to seeing...

Jaybird, FFM = Full Face Mask. The advantage is that you can easily reach the valve with your hand down below your waist. The disadvantage is that with the weight on the bottom, like with the UDS-1, the top tends to ride up off the shoulders. However, with this configuration it seemed to stay put, perhaps it is because of weights at the top of the backpack. John

HUH: it appears to have the same kinda exhaust valve as, say, the Dacor R4 and Calypso-I: it reminds me of the spout on a watering-can or one of those really old shower heads from the 1900-20's--SNORT! Eben, thanks for posting this: dang this is an odd one Jaybird
