Seatec SeaTac Horsecollar BCD- I just ordered a slightly used Seatec Seatac Sunfish BCD, which is a Horsecollar design. I've been looking for a working condition horsecollar BCD for use with my Sportways Twin 42 Tanks which are too heavy for my 3mm wetsuit. And for use offsetting the depth compression of my 5mm suit. This looks like it will do quite nicely.

Eb, here are mine: I know Searat-John has a really swell Dacor too! Jaybird

Those are in beautiful shape. Do you dive them regularly?

Unfortunately they still need to be pool tested! Sadly, the Dacor split down the side after I thought I had fixed it I haven't given up hope on it though: I've been trying to figure out how to make a vinyl welder so I can recreate the bladder... Hopefully I'll be getting back in the pool soon with my wife and OystrPir8 Robb We got a bunch o regs to test! Jaybird

Ah! So you snagged one of those. I figured they'd go pretty quickly.
It is my primary ocean diving horse collar. The only problem I ever had with mine is that the seams of the nylon shell started to separate in a few spots, mainly at the screens, and I had to resew them. Now I remember not to overinflate the bladder when drying it out. Too much pressure in the bladder was what was busting the seams, it seems;-) So, I suggest stop inflating well before the pressure relief valve vents. Otherwise, they are VERY well made.

This one looks in nearly new shape from the photos so I jumped on it. - I've been diving my Twin 38s and 42s most of the time... Actually forced me to learn alot about preparing for buoyancy conditions ahead of time and I found the simplicity of Non-BC diving very enjoyable. Even so, there are times I'd like to have the ability to squirt a little buoyancy into a BC and this will do it for me. - Thanks for the tips on avoiding over inflation. - As a matter of fact, I found your earlier posts on buying the brand new SeaTec when I was browsing. It gave me confidence to pull the trigger on buying this one! Thanks for posting! - Here's a link to the SeaTec website: www.4seatec.com/bc_category.html

I'd like to ask a dumb question: Do you wear the straps over or under your tank harness?

Always under other straps (tank and weights). The BC crotch strap is very important, so the weight belt goes on over BC straps as well. I recall a student who put his weight belt on first, then the BC. Ditching the weight belt would have ended up with it dangling between his legs.
Good Dives,

Ain't no such thing as a "dumb question" when it comes to personal safety my friend!

I'd like to ask a dumb question: Do you wear the straps over or under your tank harness? Others here have pretty much answered this question correctly, in that the BC harness needs to be under the tank harness and weight belt. But there is one exception--the cross-chest strap for the military harness on double tanks (or on single tanks, if you use the really old harness). It needs to be threaded under the BC, or upon inflation you may be surprised at the lack of ability to breath. The double D-ring safety lacing should have the loose end sticking out of the neck hole so it can be accessed with the BC still on. You can see this illustrated on my avitar photo. John

- Thanks everyone for the help in the "How to wear" department. I am crossing my fingers with another issue I may encounter... Is the neck hole going to be a tight fit going over my big fat hooded head. - I tried a similar looking Selpac horsecollar BCD last summer and between the tight fit over my head and complicating the straps by wearing them over everything else, I got claustrophobic as well as worried about entanglements with the straps... And, I didn't end up diving the thing at all.

Eban, Just so you'll know, when I made my Para-Sea BC the firm I used made the hole for the head a bit small. I have been pulling that down over my hooded head hard to get it on for over 30 years--it has no effect on how it works in the water. It's just an inconvenience when donning and doffing it. 'Hope this helps. John
