Diving Maui Conveniently...- Took a vacation to Maui with my wife. I almost packed my double hoses and vintage stuff but, I got to thinking of hauling it all around and rinsing the salt off, etc. We had signed on for a luxury day trip with the Hula Girl catamaran sailing yacht... Complete with gourmet chef cooking breakfast and lunch to order. - The diving included everything so why bring my own stuff? I didn't even take GoPro video myself. The dive master took photos and video for us. - Vintage diving skills pay off even with modern dive gear, however... I had my buoyancy pegged and didn't put any air in the BCD. I enjoyed swimming with an estimated 15 different Sea Turtles as this was a Sea Turtle sanctuary. Also, saw my first shark... A white tip reef shark about 5 feet long... It seemed more inclined to want to run away from us rather than attack us. - On another day, we did a similar trip with the Alii Nui catamaran sailing yacht. These were pretty casual dives to 77 feet and 37 feet. Letting the dive master take care of everything, I guess I was pretty lazy but, taking the equipment off my list made the diving pretty focused on just enjoying the scenery, the cruise, and the feminine company before and after the dives. Wives aren't as "INTO" this stuff as us Vintage Divers are after all...

Hey, neato! My wife and I thought about going to the 49th Sate, but decided to go to Mexico instead: don't wanna go unless we can do a lot of diving, and right now we have to keep it to snorkeling and pool dives.
Not using my mask especially, and fins, are things that bug the ca-ca outta me when we go somewhere: kinda like sleeping in someone else's bed...

Surflung,
Maui is one of the jewels of the diving world, and one of my favorite places to go. Saying that, I haven't been these since the 1980s (nor in any warm water since). I like the way you did it, and swimming with sea turtles is a wonderful experience. I'll post a few stories from my Maui experience later, but wanted you to know this I really like your post and photo.

- The photographer said I should do something besides just swimming to make the photos more interesting. Here I am showing off the guns at 77 feet deep... This is at Molokini... A dive location "Everybody" says you should go to. I saw a 6 foot Moray Eel here and the water was nice and clear. - Only two of us dove Scuba and it was funny because the other guy was certified in 1977 and I was in 1969. The other guy was not familiar with modern gear/BCD use... So I guess we were both Vintage divers!
