I won an auction with these components and would like to return it to use. It came with the swivel bot no hose. The color of the swivel suggests to me that it isn't factory equipment, but I recall a discussion on (I believe) this board about a conshelf that came with a swivel. So I am wondering if this model would have come with the swivel, and what length hose it would have. I believe the routing of the hose would be under the arm? I removed the second stage cover and I believe the diaphragm to be a newer silicone one. It is in very good shape and when I added a hose borrowed from another reg and hooked it up I found it to purge and breathe well with no free flow or signs of trouble. I do like the looks of these Conshelfs and I know several folks here use them so I merely wanted your input. I like my Conshelf 12, but this first stage has an additional LP port that would work well with my drysuit, so it my turn out to be my go to reg. Thanks in advance for any and all input. DD

Sounds like the swivel won't be used for diving, thanks Charlie.

Don, have you seen Ron's thread on VDH? If you read that, you'll know what I know about Conshelf's. vintagedoublehose.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=7504I believe what you have is a modern USN conshelf. Eben posted a USD catalog, but I cannot find it anywhere, that showed the 14. USD still makes this reg for the military. I never rebuilt my Conshelf 20 that I dove for more than a decade. The only thing I changed was the LP seat and the 2nd stage diaphragm(only because I had an extra). I never messed with the 1st stage other than to change the IP. I think the Titan/Conshelf kit that you put into your Conshelf 12 will work with this reg also. Good luck and safe diving, if it's rinsed and maintained, my guess is that your great-great grand kids will be diving that reg.

I forgot to mention: That plug on the side of your 2nd stage is the same size as your lp plugs on your first stage. Remove it to adjust the lever height.... If you don't have one of Herman's Conshelf tools, you should get one. His tool makes adjusting these things a breeze.

Thanks for the link, I'll check that out later tonight. I kinda suspected this may be a newer reg as it is very clean, and that access plug on the opposite side of the hose was mentioned elsewhere. I intend to check the IP and check it out in the pool then probably the lake or quarry. I too do not want to mess with it if it seems to be working properly, which it does so far. A little cleaning is hopefully all it needs. I do have a couple tools from Herman but I don't believe I have the one you mentioned. That will probably be on my list to get. Its a lengthy list though... I didn't get a chance to look for a date on that swivel either, (Misplaced my magnifier) as the recall suggests only a limited number were effected.
Thanks again Dave,
Don

DD, I have a Connie XIV that I got with that Healthways BC. I'm wondering if the newer ones, with the plug, are denoted by 14, as opposed to XIV?!?!?!? Also, is the exhaust-tee different, or is that just lens distortion making it look that way?

Hey JB, That link is well worth the time. According to some of the boys on the other side the 14 that I have is newer (read not vintage), and yours (an XIV) is older. I still want to get it in the water regardless of its age. Here are some pics of the tee with my XII for reference. DD

Don,
Your's is newer. When USD went to plastic second stages, the military still wanted brass. USD kept making this brass model for them, and included the adjustment port. Removing that plug makes 2nd stage adjustment easy with their special tool setup. The older style without the adjustment port requires a specially bent screwdriver and a little finesse. Your's is quite the find. The 1st stage is likely to be the military model as well. That means they stuck with the brass hp seat instead of the plastic one that caused the problems with hp leaks in the 80's.
Good Dives,
Charlie

DD, Eben posted a military and police catalog a while ago, that showed they still offer those, along with a updated version of the wrap around mask... I remember making a mental note to tell my wife about it: so that when people nag about using an ancient reg, she could tell them to bugger off!

DD, BTW, the guy who started that thread on the VDH is an all-right-guy: I know him, his name's Ron, he really knows his schtuff!

I took the C14 out for a spin in Superior today and it performed well. There was a ringing each time I inhaled but besides that my dive went well. I invited one of the recently certified students, and a neighbor of mine who hasn't been on SCUBA in over ten years, so I didn't feel conformable bringing the Nautilus or any of my double hose regulators. This reg was a good choice. I guess I could mention that the dive duration was 40 minutes and the water was a balmy 41 degrees. I can hardly wait until September when 50 degrees is sometimes noted DD
