This is perhaps one of the strangest association with vintage diving... vintage music. To me, the soundtrack of many of our dearest vintage diving shows were as influential as the video itself... think of violins flute arrangements in The Undersea World of J.C, the epic trumpets of Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom ( which portrayed great vintage diving gear... all Dacor )...
Here's a couple example of what I consider 'epic' underwater album:
Thunderball.... soundtrack of the amazing James Bond movie.... It's hard not to imagine yourself wearing square trunks and diving among corals in the Bahamas... ideally accompanied by a stunning female diver wearing a vintage bikini...
Ron and Valerie Taylor produced this amazing TV series in 1972... showcasing from white sharks to sea snakes... the music was simply spectacular .... great jazzy arrangements ... if you have Spotify... try to listen to this album... and think of a pair of baby blue rubber fins and an oval mask... if you can fix a cocktail to enhance the experience, even better!
Les Baxter was a great musician... composing and performing some of the finest pieces of exotica lounge music of all times... this album is enchanting and hallucinating... pure 1960's.... like with Sven Libaek... try listening this with a vintage cocktail on your right hand...
And finally.... another great piece of exotica lounge music... composed by the one and only, Martin Denny.... including:
A1 Trade Winds
A2 My Isle Of Golden Dreams
A3 Stardust
A4 Song Of The Islands
A5 Flotsam And Jetsam
A6 Beyond The Sea (Le Mer)
B1 Off Shore
B2 Sentimental Journey
B3 Beyond The Reef
B4 Baubles, Bangles And Beads
B5 Cross Current
B6 The Enchanted Sea
I'm looking to play all these album in my sailboat... while enjoying a nice rum cocktail, anchored on a quiet cove... and thinking of coral islands and vintage dives.
Cheers!
