Tonight on public television there is a program titled "Into the Arizona," the second program of a two-part series tonight on Pearl Harbor. The first one, which I am watching right now, deals with the sinking of the "USS Oklahoma, The Final Story." The second is titled "Into the Arizona," and reportedly details diving into the USS Arizona, and going down into decks that were previously inaccessible. It should be an interesting program.

That was well worth the time to watch. Wow, it was an ROV that entered the USS Arizona, as no diving is allowed inside by the US Park Service. Divers assisted from the outsi, and it followed an Arizona survivor as he viewed the insides down to deck 3. This, combined with historical footage of the actual attack made for a very moving program. If you missed its airing, it is available here: www.pbs.org/program/pearl-harbor-into-the-arizona/John

John, a while ago my wife and I went on the USS Hornet, very interesting ship. They had an area where you could watch a short documentary about pulling WW-II vintage aircraft out of the Great Lakes. Part of it was a man who flew a dive bomber and helped sink the Japanese battleship Yamato: he said as he watched it go down he had horrible realization of 2,500 people had just died--yeah, that was a whole lot of sobering for me, and really took the shine off of things walking around in there...
