Mark your calendars and save the weekend of October 14/15 2017 for a vintage dive get together in Monterey! This "event" will be informal and minimalist and everyone is welcome. I will set up a canopy and table at San Carlos Beach Park near the breakwater. I choose mid October because the weather is warm and sunny and there aren't too many other events scheduled for that weekend. Also, no disrespect to gatherings in quarries in the Mid-West, visibility is usually good and there is plenty to see. The downside is that parking is always a problem in Monterey and weekends are crowded because everyone likes to come here.
There won't be t-shirts or bumper stickers but if Vance doesn't mind I may provide pins with the logo; "Change is Bad!".

Ok Folks! It's just over two months to go for this event. duckbill and I just got our reservations confirmed. I plan on being there Oct. 12 - 16th. Now is the time to start making hotel reservations if you plan on attending. I have three Vintage gear buddies that plan on attending also. One is coming from the Los Angeles area. One will be diving his Argonaut Kraken DH. Even though it is a modern DH, I told him it's ok as it stems from vintage roots. I also plan on bringing a beach sun shelter and a table for the event. So those who are planing to coming, let's start up a list. Just a suggestion, maybe Saturday night we meet for pizza & beer and share sea stories. It should be great fun.

Making a list is a good idea. How do we go about it? My wife suggested that I create an event on FaceBook. For that to work, you would friend me on FB, I create an event and I invite you to attend. The list would be on FB. Another alternative is to create a closed FB group, which anyone can see but only members can comment.
This is beginning to sound like a job for JB or some other computer expert.
Another possibility is an email group which I am willing to host.
Please post your thoughts and remember that the weather in October is usually beautiful with great diving conditions.

I don't think that Jay Bird is on Facebook? I've tried to get him to sign up before... The Facebook idea is a good idea. Mark

No, sorry, I just can't/won't do Facebook: I don't like what they do with the information they gather: I try to keep my on-line foot-print as small as possible. I will on the other-hand create graphics; jus' tell me wha'cha want JB

I likewise don't/won't do social media.
All you have to do is edit your first post and add a list. As people check in with names, simply add them to it. Is this the only place this invite has been posted?
P.S. Put me on the list. "duckbill" Terry

If you're starting an email list, add me:
cnotthoff@hotmail.com
I'll probably be down there a few days before that dive. Let me know if I can help with anything.
Good Dives, Charlie

I really wish I could attend, or I still lived on the West Coast! It seems all the people I know and get along with at least online live on the Pac. Coast... I was at a vintage dive event where I live today and really did not know the people all that well. Hope to actually meet some of you in real life someday! Anyway, have fun and I look forward to photos! Mark

Only 6 weeks to go! I decided to go ahead put together a list of potential attendees to the Monterey Vintage get together (Facebook is out). If you are on the list and are not attending I apologize, and I will edit this post to make it current. Likewise if I missed you and you are not on the list, howler up and I will put you on it. Let's make this a great event.

I found the duct tape and repaired my canopy. I will set it up on the grass near the picnic tables. I will bring some donuts but bring your own beer.

crabbyjim, I just saw your new avatar. That's a great idea. The rest of us should also post pictures of ourselves in our avatars so we can recognize each other at the Monterey meet.

Pictures are a good idea although it should be fairly easy to spot us: a bunch of old coots with cool, antique gear.
