Hello all! I have been given this large dive knife made by Salvas. Over the years I have come to own many different models and make of dive knives; Voit, Nemrod, US Divers, Healthways, Eternal, La Spirotechnique and the Japanese brands but never a Salvas (nor seen or heard of them). I haven't found a single picture or even mention of a Salvas knife on the internet so I come to you kind folks to pick your collective knowledge. Any information or observation is most welcome. Cheers Further images: imgur.com/a/kiEWb[/a]

This may have been a Swiss Army Knife. I googled Salvus-Pro INOX and got the following site: www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Explore/Company/cms/companyThat's about as much as I could find out. The key was the INOX, which indicates "VICTORINOX." It probably is a very high quality knife. You might reach out to WICTORINOX Swiss Army and ask. I would be interested in any response. John

I searched eBay, and Salvas Pro appears to be an Italian diving equipment company. Most of the gear on eBay looks to be from the late 1970s or the 1980s, and your knife looks to be of the same era. INOX just means inoxidizable, meaning it won’t rust, ie stainless steel.
DRW will likely have some insight, as he’s pretty good with the international stuff.

There's an undated Salvas sub catalogue on the Historical Diving equipment website at www.historicaldivingequipment.com/uploads/7/3/3/8/73382381/salvas_catalogo.pdf. The diving knife page illustrates two models: The description of the knife on the right of the image is in German and reads more or less as follows: "Article 621 'Daga'. The most stable and the toughest ever offered to divers. It is 18 cm long, with a stainless steel cutting edge, it can hollow out, dig out and hammer better and faster than any other knife. The new double-lashed sheath gives extra security against loss." The name Salvas is an acronym: "Società Anonima Lavorazioni Varie Apparecchi di Salvataggio", which I think (Italian is not one of the languages I have studied) means something along the lines of "Limited company manufacturing a variety of lifesaving equipment". One of its brand names was "Shark". Its administration centre was in Castelnuovo Scrivia (Alessandria) and its research base was in Rome. PS: The Whitstable Diving Company "carried" Salvas gear during the 1960s. Here's an excerpt from their mid-60s catalogue: On the subject of "inox", Aquala is right about the word meaning "inoxidisable" and being used to describe stainless steel. I'm very familiar with the French word "inoxidable", shortened to "inox", because I spent a year during the late 1960s teaching in a school in France's "capitale de coutellerie" (cutlery capital), the Auvergne town of Thiers.

Hi guys!
It appears I forgot about this post, apologies. I actually emailed Salvas asking about this fine knife (6 years ago) and received a reply, here it is:
Dear Mr. - ,
Glad to receive your email and happy to see our knives are still available and in such a good shape after so many years.
This knife style name is “MASTER” and it was produced at Salvas in the mid till end of the 80’s.
Still some very small quantity have been assembled in very early 90’s but I believe this is not the case.
I wish to have fulfilled properly your question and let me know if you have any query.
Best regards,
Marco Maggi
CEO Salvas srl

As I scrolled through this thread, I was thinking, "Huh, that looks 1980's to me, but if I say somethin', it won't be..." I like that it's takeapartable too, very cool JB
