Hello everyone,
Thought I would introduce myself. I've been contributing on the VDH board for some time now but am not a social media kinda guy and really have zero time to commit to checking a bunch of sites all the time. That said, I met a few of your members in Monterey last September (Crabbyjim, Fishandbeer Jerry, Vance, Christian...) and have been diving with Herman, Luis, SurfLung Eben, captain, Barlow, simonbeans, etc... Vance and I have been having a continuing discussion on 1st Gen HW Scuba exhaust diaphragms.
My father taught me to dive in 1967 using all of his gear from the 1950's so I was brought up with just a steel 72, harness, j-valve and no BC (and taught the only reason to dive was to hunt game - killed me lots of lobster, abalone, halibut and rock scallops over the years). The first reg I bought new was a round label AquaMaster in 1973. I sold dive travel in the late 70's, early 80's. I taught NAUI Advanced classes as my friend Sam Miller, III's assistant for five years and then became a NAUI Instructor. Sam introduced me to everybody who was anybody, or at least thought they were. Met JYC a few times and my wife and I had the pleasure of having dinner with him about 6 months before he passed away. I have been fortunate to be able to have dove many places in the world (not everywhere, still got a few places on my bucket list). My favorite will always be a 30 foot dive through the kelp forests off the beach in So. Cal.
I have rebuilt a number of Voit, USD and HW regs along with J-60 valves and J-62 manifolds. My favorite vintage reg is a toss up between my Mistral and my Gold Label. Both breathe amazingly. Recently finished a set of Sportsways 38/42 tanks and just acquired two USN 38's with bushings that were 1st hydroed Oct. 1941. This hobby is too damn addicting.
I got "volunteered " to head up the next SEA HUNT FOREVER show in Silver Springs, Florida March 2-3, 2019 so y'alls come down and check it out.
Anyway, enough about me. Hope to be able to jump in and contribute on subjects I at least think I know something about.
Mark
