We just got back from a FANTASTIC weekend at Lake Wazee, Black River Falls, Wisconsin.... Thanks to all who participated, we had a record number of TWENTY-FIVE (25) double hose regulator divers in the water all at one time! Several of the vintage divers also participated in a deep dive to 187 feet, using either Royal Aqua-Masters, Mistrals, or DA Aqua-Masters. All of the regulators performed flawlessly, even at this extreme depth. Many other activities were enjoyed by all, including surface supplied diving, vintage Jacque Cousteau and Sea Hunt movies, a tasty barbecue, and lots of technical talk around the campfire. :-)
Participating divers came from all over the U.S., and included: Dan Barringer James Williams Luis Heros Frans Carlson Ryan Spence Rob Studnicka Chuck Tenge Darren Quiram Bryan Pennington Guy Hanson Bill Wallace Andy Moja Tom McClusky Jerry Lang Jerry Moseman Gayle, Terry, and Dohn Peterson Dave Krafft Marshall Washick Jerry Powell Steve Stumpf Vern Hinz Mark Steere Dion Quiram
Vintage Scuba Supply wishes to thank everyone who attended. We'll post pictures on our web site later (Linda and I are still travelling at the moment and have limited internet access). We are already looking forward to next year's vintage dive event!!!
Thanks again!!! Dan

Yes, I must say we had a great time! I was somewhat worried I was going into an ice pit but in fact the Lake Wazee was pleasently warm down to almost 30 feet or slightly less and with about 30 feet viz. The lake was full of techies and we vintage divers made an interesting contrast in style, function and substance. None of them tried to force me to use a snorkel and in respectful return I did not implode any of them with my Bang Stick---just kidding---all the various non vintage divers were friendly sorts excpet for the ones that called the police on us for playing loud music (SeaHunt). Thanks to all for the great barbecue, the prize drawing where a young diver won the wonderfull DA and I am sure he will be diving it 30 years from now! Oh, and the movies and SeaHunt episodes, JC seminar and SeaHunt seminar from Jerry and all sorts of great times. Oh, and nice to meet many of you, Dan, Linda, Jerry, Dave, Luis, and on and on.
James

I'm so jealous! Sounds like everyone had a great time at Lake Wazee. I've missed 2 straight years and will do my best to attend next year so as to not to make it 3 years. Keep posting your experiences so we can read about your awesome Vintage Dive Get-Together. Regards, Joe

Joe, you've just got to make it next year! This was my first time, too, and I'm not even a vintage diver! But being involved in Dan's business all these years, even just as webmaster and doing shipping/receiving, etc., I am interested nonetheless, and it really was a lot of fun.
It was great to meet everyone, and the vintage scuba chatter was non-stop for four days straight! You really learn a lot (or I did, anyway...) I was very impressed with everyone in the group. The creativity, problem solving ability, and dedication to the "sport" is intensely evident with all these guys... The fact that most of them maintain their own gear, and even re-invent, improve and re-engineer it is quite impressive. Even as a non-diver, I began to see that the vintage group is "a cut above" and in a class by themselves. James and Luis, for example... these are people that could make a snowmobile out of a blender if there was nothing else - ha!
Anyway... It really was a lot of fun -- especially when our Sea Hunt movies sounded like "loud music" to the tech divers -- ha!! And even funnier that some of them joined us to watch them. :-)

It was a great time, wasn't it! Sorry we had to leave so early guys. Dohn had surgury on his arm friday, and feels much better today. All of us will be there next year, and we'll have the young lad in the water! Jerry: Dohn loves his Sea Hunt DVD and still thinks that Zale Parry is 'beautiful'. I see him gaze at her lovingly while watching the movie.

Glad to hear Dohn made it through the surgery okay. I'm sure he'll be in better shape next year! We are thinking of a new location for 2006 -- some of the guys would like to explore new territory. Plus if we choose a different area, it might provide an opportunity for vintage divers in other parts of the country to participate if they haven't yet... We will still try to keep it centrally located for the most part, in order to make travel distances as short as possible for everyone.
