It looks a bit like the Dacor R-1,2 type second stage setup, only even farther away from the intake horn. I've never seen one of these apart, and I am a bit curious.
If they had mounted the first stage body 180 degrees around so's to get directly at the intake horn, would it would work better, like the change between the R-1,2 and the R-3? The R-1,2 second stage is 45 degrees away from the intake horn, and the R-3 is turned another 45 to be directly in front of the horn. I think this improved things, but the second stage performance was throttled by the straight up jet that was sent out in all directions and somewhat deflected toward the horn by the lever/seat. Not a very efficient system. This looks worse?

I finally got around to playing around with my DA Navy Approved this evening. I was able to get the lever up a bit. I had it slightly free flowing, then backed it down a bit. I'm not sure how much better it will breath underwater, but we will see in the future. On the surface it seems to have improved things a bit, not earth shattering change, but a slight improvement. I have no clue when I can get this in there water and I don't expect a whole lot, but if it is better than it was before I will be happy. Mark

I just got a nice, relatively unused Navy DA. Everything looks excellent. The HP valve innards are pristine, including the HP seat. The top box is bent due to a topple-over or something, but the arbor press will straighten that right out.
I'm also working on a red label Broxton, which is at my friend's shop for plating. I'll post photos of the Navy DA prolly tomorrow when I get the box clips off, and the Broxton when it arrives.
I love this stuff!

Of all the regs I have got back together and working (and this is a very small amount compared to most on here...) the DA Navy Approved was the most challenging by far!!! But if I can get one working (not working good...), anyone can do it!!! Mark

I replaced the LP puck with a new blue one. The old one popped out and I superglued the new one in. With some new gaskets, a new HP diaphragm, new sintered filter, and some lathe lovin' for the HP seat, the regulator locks up tight.
I sent my IP adapter off to be plated, so I don't know where it's set, yet. If it's not back soon, I'll make a new one.

The label on mine is yellow/orange. The LP Seat on mine was quite the challenge getting it out. Glad to see another one in action. Mark

Your orange label Navy is pretty rare. Cool. Have you posted photos of it? Oh, yeah, I see it a couple pages back.
I'm waiting for my Broxton to come back from plating. It was missing the label, so I am trying to determine which model it is. I think it's a red label due to some early characteristics, like no locating tabs. But, some reds I've seen have a 1 piece HP diaphragm retainer, and mine has a 2 piece part. It could have been replaced by a tech in order to make IP adjustments easier, but IDK.
I am looking for information about the evolution of these regs, but details are hard to come by.

Green Tag Broxtons also had no locating tabs. What information about the Broxtons are you seeking that is not found in: Historical Diver Volume 13 Issue 1 Number 42,Winter 2005?(sound of wind chimes in background)

Here’s my Braxton DA Aqualung: Aqualung Regulator-1 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Aqualung Regulator-2 by John Ratliff, on Flickr DA Aqualung-1 by John Ratliff, on Flickr I initially had all sorts of problems with it, and finally sent it off to one of the people here on this forum. If you have problems, you may wish to talk with the Braxton Coalition about it. I still occasionally dive it, and it is one of the quietest regulators you can take underwater. John

John, do you have a photo of the yoke side?
Mike, did some of the red tag Broxtons have a two piece spring/HP diaphragm seat like John's green tag?

Phil, alas i have not seen the innards of a red tag Broxton. never could pick one off the bay to do the forensics. they are some what rare, not many manufactured. there are several guys around the sites though that own one and maybe one of them can answer your question. John, i believe you are thinking about Broxton Chuck who was a frequent diver/visitor around here and he was a HUGE Broxton fan. he disappeared about 10 years ago, dunno what happened to him. he was very knowledgeable on the Broxtons. there is a picture of him posing with his Broxton on Dans vintagescubasupply photo page. he sold me a blue tag that i dove for awhile(that's when i became a Broxton fan) and they are a quiet, smooth breathing reg when tuned properly. BC I think Broxton Chuck passed away about that long ago. About the red label Broxton, the one I have has single piece first stage retainer (no adjustment screw). Not readily adjustable, but IP can be raised by shimming the main spring.

Question for the experts. How do you tune a Trademark/DA Navy Approved regulator without the special and rare IP adapter?
