I just found a book I bought in 2006. It is titled, Deep, Dark and Dangerous, On the Bottom with theNorthwest Salvage Divers, by Rebecca Hrrison. I got it from Powell's Bookstore for $13.50. I think this was the time I was at Powell's because of a snowstorm that had created a tremendous traffic jam, and I had been caught in that traffic jam. So after more than 45 minutes in the jam, and advancing only about 1/4 mile, I got off the I-405 and went to Powell's Bookstore. I got a hot chocolate, and sat down in their bookstore, looking for diving books. And, I found this one, signed by Rebecca Harrison. It documents some of the old-time divers like Fred Devine, Art McCray, and the Finch family, with their four generations of divers. They were mostly hardhat diving in the Columbia River, but one chapter of the book details Robert Sheats, and his exploits in the South Pacific during WWII.
More later, as I need to read more.

John I began reading 'Deep, Dark and Dangerous', but moved to something else for whatever reason, I'll have to pull it back off the shelf. Have you read 'One Man's War' By Robert Sheats? Great book. After reading, I couldn't help but wonder how much silver is still at the bottom of Manila Bay.

I think I've been to Powell's once?, it was on my drive back to Alaska, spent a couple days in Portland after a 36 hour visit to Monterey. Good times... Mark
