Hi guys(and ladies of course),
I have a problem with broken filler hose(#1090-11)on my uds-1 and cannot find a replacement. Does anybody know if there are still any NOS parts around or if there is a cross reference to an existing hose which I can substitute? The broken part is at the filler head(#1090-29) and resembles the swivel on a submersible p-gauge. I contacted USD,they know the part but no stock left(they also had good laugh!!!). Thanks for any help, Michel A.

Ron, sorry for the late reply but thank you for the info, it seems that many who are attracted to the UDS-1 experience the same series of problems. No doubt that is why the system was a commercial failure for USD and quickly phased out. Thanks again, I may just decide to sell it piece meal on account I'm running out of aspirin! Regards, Michel A.

Michael,
When you say the filler head is broken, exactly what about it is broken? Has it actually split, or are the threads that hold it to the positioner stripped? In the first case, it needs to be replaced, and in the second case, there is a work-around.

Hi John, It's not the head block nor the threads that is broken but the internal pin head with small o-ring which you can see if you unscrew the filler head from the end of the hose. It's not the other end which screws into the manifold(that one is fine). The end(female) contains a pin or nipple which is similar to a modern hose which attaches to a SPG and allows it to swivel even under pressure. If it is torqued to tight or seized when removing it can schear off(it is very delicate looking). This is what happened. Regards, Michel A.

Michael, and any others,
I'll tell you that working on the UDS-1 and getting it ready for the water is worth the effort. It is a wonderful unit in the water if it is balanced correctly (about 6 pounds in the top of the unit). It breathes like a dream, and has much better valving than did the Cousteau units of the era. The J-reserve is situated such that it cannot be bumped open, and it gives aa very good reserve between the cylinders when tripped (the brochure says 1000 psi nominal in one cylinder [12 cubic feet], which would equalize to about 350 psi, but I've seen more than that in mine--more like 500 psi). So keep at it, and you will enjoy the results. Besides, it's nice to have someone ask if this is a new rig, or a rebreather!
