BC,
I think the tank you're looking for is actually a 52 cubic foot tank, by U.S. Divers Company. I have a set of these as doubles, and I'll check the psi rating.

A friend of mine is clearing out his shop. There are many 1/2 inch tapered thread cylinders with valves up for grabs. If you're interested, I can probably drop them off somewhere between Humboldt County and Monterey when they let me go. Otherwise, they can be yours for the price of shipping. I think they're headed for the scrap yard.
Good Dives, Charlie

Hi Charlie! If you can find a fifty or a thirty-eight, would you mind bringing one on your next visit to Monterey?

looking for a vintage steel 50 cu ft tank, working psi of 2250. 3/4 O ring valve. BC I have that exact tank. Got it about 8 years ago and was looking for another one to make a set of Voit Twin steel 50s. I could never find another one and since that time I've built 2 sets of Twin 38s from surplus tanks, restored a set of Sportsways Twin 42s, and bought a nice yellow set of USD Twin 38s ready-made. I STILL have not found another single steel 50, 2250 psi to match my original. The Basic Scuba book says these tanks don't actually hold 50 cf unless you fill them 10% over the 2250 psi working pressure. They're 45 cf at 2250 psi and 50 cf at 2475 psi. Also, they are almost the same size as Twin 38s, and 42s, but they're higher pressure and thicker steel... So they are heavier. I keep that 50 set up as a single with a J valve and it's a really decent lake diving tank. I don't use it much though, because of all the other tanks I have. I can sure appreciate you wanting to complete your set. If you don't find one in the next year, look me up. It really should be part of a set of Twin 50s... Either mine or yours! Here's a nice photo of Voit Twin 50s from the Vintage Scuba Supply website...
