Does anybody recognize the hose setup on this Conshelf XII? One of our LDS is moving and they were having a "I don't want to move it sale". I paid 20 bucks for this Connie, and it works. The hose has a soft spot in it though. IMG_0305 by Skip Yetman, on Flickr

It looks like an underarm hose setup, perhaps with a longer hose.

I was thinking the same thing John, maybe for cave or wreck diving. I can't find anything like this on any of the websites I've been to.

Could be a custom hose, definitely for tech diving or a recreational diver who knew what they were doing. I think that adapter makes it easier and more comfortable when you need shorter hose lengths to be streamlined like in a cave or a wreck. I was thinking of getting some myself down the line to try them out.
I’m surprised more techies don’t use USD metal seconds. They’re so simple and fool proof and don’t come with any fancy features like adjustable venturis or balancing which could be a problem at depth or in cold water.

US Divers offered that setup in the 80's. I think it may have been only for the military. I have one of those hose setups. I'll see if I can find it in my pile o' treasures.

Here is the hose I have. I've always wondered just exactly how this thing would work. One end matches the fitting on your second stage. The other would allow you to attach another second stage. Is this an early buddy breathing alternative? Is there an adapter for fitting this hose (with a swivel) to a first stage? Your thoughts and comments are welcome. IMG_0306 by Skip Yetman, on Flickr This is the first stage on mine. There is an adapter that can be seen in the photo where the female end shown in Charlies pic attaches to the first stage.

Very interesting.
There was no swivel in the axis of the hose near the second stage so they added a swivel on the first stage, for the hose to rotate.
The only swivel on the second stage was in the 90 degree angle from the hose. So you could look up and down easily, but to look left or right, the hose had to swivel.
Thanks for the pictures.
Now-a-days you can just add a 90 degree swivel that allows rotation in both axis. It is a fairly common under the arm configuration with that swivel.

Just so everyone will know, whenever in an air flow system there is a 90 degree bend, there will be some loss of velocity in the flow. This won't affect most people except under very high flow situations, and/or very deep diving. But it does happen. We (divers) had a very long and thoughtful discussion on this on ScubaBoard in 2017-18. If interested, read the whole thread (all 6 pages). www.scubaboard.com/community/threads/90-degree-elbow-on-second-stage.555025/John

Just read about all of the report, and all I can say is that tbone1004 (which I have also seen in other threads) is quite mouthy and ignorant. Pretty much everyone was against John’s point that the 90 degree elbow reduces velocity except Akimbo who was a fellow USN Diver.
Definitely a good read if you have the time.

I think this experiment was also proven correct when John used a Sherwood manifold in his attempt to create a chest mounted DH, and since it has more bends the air flow suffered.

The hard seat (crown or inlet) is integral to the swivel. It is secured inside the swivel barrel by a circlip. It is a very custom bit-o-kit.
