I have read a few different manuals for the DA Aqua-Master and the Royal Aquamaster and am still puzzled as to what is the proper or best way to adjust the nut on the LP seat retainer stem. One says to hold the stem with needlenose pliers and thread the nut down until all freeplay in the horseshoe is just taken up. Another says to hold the stem with needlenose pliers while the 1st stage is pressurized and thread the nut down until the horseshoe will raise the LP retainer 5/32" (when the horseshoe fingers are depressed, I assume). Another, for the DA, is pretty ambiguous to me. It states: "While the regulator is still under pressure, screw down nut until approximately a 3/16" lift is attained on horseshoe between the point of activation and the highest point it can ba lifted." In light of the previous method mentioned, I assume here that the 3/16" lift is the lift of the LP retainer, NOT freeplay lift at the end of the horseshoe fingers. Is there any time, other than in the case of variation in height of the two horseshoe fingers, when bending of the horseshoe might be necessary or desireable? How do YOU adjust your LP stem nuts and horseshoes?

Duckbill,
I followed the expert instruction from Broxton Chuck who stated I should tighten the nut until there is only a little loosness in the horseshoe.......in the water the pressure will push the diaphgram in and take up the slack.
You have the nut too tight and the unit will tend to free flow in the water a bit. I have found the lip of the can, where the diaphgram edges rest, below the edge, is the level I use for the max height of the horseshoes. This leaves enough looseness for the unit to function quite well. On my units.
Others will have different ideas I'm sure.

Thanks Billy. Two questions. 1) What method do you use to secure the nut, considering there could be a little freeplay in the horseshoe arrangement? 2) Once you have the nut adjusted, would you have to bend the horseshoe fingers to get the height you are looking for if they're not already there?
