Both videos raised a laugh, so thanks, JB. I was waiting to hear some Geordie, though, our Tyneside dialect. There was just a snatch of it at the end. Black beaches due to coal desposits are a bit of a stereotype nowadays. Way in the past, horses and carts would head on to NE England beaches to collect "sea coal", but I only have distant memories of that from the mid twentieth century. As for NE England as a tourist destination, here's a piece of 1930s-style nostalgia, complete with "flappers": The Scots used to flock here for their week-long vacations, but I expect even they would balk nowadays at the coldness of the water all year round!
