One More Non-Regional Thought... - It occurs to me that the effort to plan a BIG event makes it a lot harder to pull off than something local. Why not do something with your regular dive buddies... Whether they're vintage or not. Tell them "we're doing a vintage theme and just bring something old to show off". Maybe when they see you diving vintage they'll get interested. Sea Hunt Jerry used to do an annual vintage dive for all of his old students and dive friends. I think about half came with a double hose and the others had fun diving alongside us. That got stopped by Covid restrictions. But the other part of it I remember is that Jerry called every diver personally... sometimes more than once... Until he got a commitment that they were coming! He would get 15-20 people to come. - SwimJim says bringing food helps attendance. Chili, brats, sloppy joes.

I’m agree with Slick on this. Its not that easy to interest DIR divers in a doublehose. As soon as you mention “vintage” at a shop, you’ve got a big red X next to your name! It would appear the vintage diving community is growing smaller each year, so it would be nice to have a large vintage dive meet while we can. Sea Hunt Forever doesn’t count (at least to me) since it sounds like an invite only event. That doesn’t work for us regular joes who aren’t lucky enough to have a Voit. And the price of vintage gear is enough to deter any level-headed diver. If I had any more sense I wouldn’t have bothered getting into vintage scuba but I’m in too far

And the price of vintage gear is enough to deter any level-headed diver. If I had any more sense I wouldn’t have bothered getting into vintage scuba but I’m in too far As a past Chairman of the Sea Hunt Forever event I can say that it is "invite only" to the extent our permit from the State of Florida combined with physical space limitations at Silver Springs State Park limits the number of divers we can have to about 25 with another 25 non-diving support personnel. For those interested here is how it works in a nutshell. Past participants (for the most part) get first dibs on a slot in future shows. We always seem to have a few slots open each time and those slots are in extraordinary demand. We have a vetting committee that looks at many factors for new diving participants including: (1) Recommendations by past diving cast members; (2) Verification that the diver candidate possesses (or has access to) the very specific equipment requirements (i.e., if you can't identify the Sea Hunt show # and scene where that equipment was used it can't be used in the show. This is part of the Historical Re-enactment portion of our State permits); (3) Proof that you actually know how to dive vintage and are good at it with perfect bouyancy skills and are at home with diving no SPG, no BC, no backpack and no dive computer; and (4) that you possess the willingness and character to represent the ideals of Sea Hunt and to invest considerable sums of your own money in travel and equipment and can get along with others well. In other words, SHF cast members must be 1000% dedicated to the cause. Unfortunately, we can't take everyone. That said, we love to talk with fellow vintage divers, modern divers, and the non-diving public who attend SHF. In fact, that is all we do with our top-side time. Ask Surflung! We are happy to show any diver around in the staging area to see all the cool gear up close and the educational experience is amazing - we learn alot too. That said, SHF is unique and a regular old vintage dive meet and greet provides more opportunities to actually dive with other vintage divers whether truly vintage or modern-vintage with a DH regulator and all the other trappings of the modern diver. All is good and we learn from each other. From what I see the number of people interested in vintage diving is growing larger each year; however, I have no way to gauge how many folks are actually diving vintage or are just looky-loos. I say advertise any and all vintage get-togethers (even if it is just you and a buddy meeting up for a morning dive). You never know who might show up to dive or just show up to ask questions. Of course if you are diving your "secret spot" by all means keep it quiet. I've gone on long enough. My 2 psi.

I've also seen Aquamasters and Mistrals apart on his workbench (within the last 2 years). He was very interested in the "Snark 3 Super Modified"

You think we dont do that already? Most divers dont care about vintage gear nor do they have any, including most people who run the LDS. The only place that some of us get to talk about this stuff and learn about it is forums like this with like minded people who care and know what they are talking about. If we arent going to worry about that part of it then why not just disband the forum and we can all just talk about vintage gear with our neighbors. Really sorry I bothered you with all this meet up talk. Actually, I DO sort of think that. I sincerely mean no offense but I don't see videos, pictures, and dive reports from other than a few of the regular contributors. Take a look at the Regional postings. Same thing over at VDH... The same few of us post info on actual dive get togethers. It doesn't have to be a big national event to take a few photos and share them with the rest of us. Wait 'til you see the photos from yesterday when me, my son, and grad children were all vintage diving in Lake Victoria, MN. (Stay tuned and I'll post them sometime today.) And finally, I certainly hope we aren't all "like-Minded". Differing view points are what make a discussion interesting.

If ScubaStephano is the guy from Wisconsin, I think SeaHunt Jerry might have looked him up and invited him to a dive at Wazee last week. Jerry is one of the best Ambassadors of diving we have up here. I remember him calling ME back in 2011 when I started with these forums. He was a total stranger to me then but is one of my best friends now. Anyway, I don't think anybody "attacked" ScubaStephano.
P.S. I posted the pictures of our 4th of July Vintage diving in the Regional section.

Attacks don’t really happen on this forum. In fact this thread has more drama in it than I’ve seen here in years. Members can and do delete themselves for whatever reason and are not obligated to explain, so let’s not stir the pot with speculation.
