Just my 2 cents here. I recently posted I'd have door prizes for those who showed up at our planned event. Well it was nothing but crickets. Nobody new showed up. And the door prizes were nice which included a working Snark III double hose regulator, a scuba tank wind chime, a $50 gift certificate. A Voit tank regulator display. A pair of really nice full foot vintage fins....Nobody came to possibly get a door prize. Some rebreather divers got in on the door prizes and they really appreciated getting the stuff. I don't know what else to do to get people involved and interested. I even filled a person's tanks for him this last trip so he could keep diving the next trip. I carry a lot of vintage gear on my trips and it takes me hours to pack and unpack and get everything ready for the next dive. Right now I don't know of any vintage events other than the Ohio one that is even close to me.

If he can't spark interest in attending a vintage dive event I'm not sure anyone can. Those of us who are active in vintage diving and actually currently dive vintage are a sub-set of a sub-set of a sub-set. 99.999% of all divers out there really don't give a rat's derrier about our little niche within a sub-niche, and never will. Open to all ideas but I believe the vast majority of divers out there could care less about the origins of our sport. It's not like equipment and dive technique origins are taught at any level of dive training today. My 2psi.

And I have even more gear coming that I haven't dove yet. Yes I have a vintage style Cousteau wetsuit coming from France. Yes it will look like the wetsuits Cousteau and his team wore and was advertised in the 1973 US Divers catalog. It is a one piece wetsuit with attached hood and booties. I have a Unisuit that I haven't had a change to try yet either. And I want to try my Jack Brown Desco full face mask again. There are some very rare tanks in the making too, just need to get the deal done. Working on a set of Sportsways twin 38's for a friend who wants to get them up and working again because it's the tanks his father used. I just found him a round label Royal Aquamaster and had it rebuilt for him. It is a very nice reg and he wanted one to use with his father's tanks. And then I found a 2nd stage regulator for one of my UDS-1 units that was missing the correct 2nd stage. Need to get the deal done on that one too and get it. I would love to make the Ohio event.....Not sure at this point. Not many people have seen some of my custom vintage gear. Since it is Shark week, I should mention I had a JAWS wetsuit made that looks just like the one in the move. I have the correct tank, regulator, mask and fins for that movie.

Which tank? The Jaws tank I've had for a while. Same with the UDS-1 tanks.

I've been to THREE... - In the last three weeks that we've been discussing this, I've been to THREE vintage equipment diving events. It's Summertime... We have to get out there and dive as often as we're able. - 3 weeks ago I was at Fortune Pond with Sheriff Diver and others. Two weeks ago I was in the lake out front diving double hoses with family and friends. And Yesterday I was up at Crosby pits diving with Franz and SeaHunt Jerry. Franz, Jerry, and Tom McCluskey were #1,2, and 3 of the vintage divers that started our double hose movement. Jerry put the dive together in a day. He told me and Rich about it last week. And we got our time off work and drove the heck up there to take part in the event. Jerry brought along some conventional divers as well so all together there were 8 of us... Having fun in the sun and the clear blue waters of Pennington lake. - And now I'd like to address the idea that Vintage Double Hose diving is dying off. I got into it in 2011 and frankly, it wasn't big even back then. The first get together was Sea Hunt Jerry's annual Vintage event where a bunch of his friends and former students would go to Wazee. At that first event, I was surprised that I was the only one (I thought) diving full vintage gear. But actually, about half the divers had brought along a double hose or at least something else vintage. Most weren't "into" vintage... But later I met up with Tom McClusky (who IS into vintage) and he gave me some history and we did some show and tell of our various equipment. - I don't think our local interest has gone down or up except that Rich (50,001 Questions) and Ron (SheriffDiver) have become very active participants. All of us have invited people, many have come and enjoyed vintage diving but it seems like our little group of Me, Rich, Ron, SwimJim, Jerry, and Tom are the die-hards. We've gained a number of diving friends who dive with us but don't dive vintage... We have tech divers, sport divers, rebreather divers. And so our events aren't ever "pure" vintage. - I got a PM a few days ago from a participant in this subject who wanted to "de-escalate" me privately from the "attacks" I was presumably making in my posts. Then, he went on to say he can't go to a particular event for one reason, another event for another reason, and basically ANY events for lots of other reasons. AND.. he can't put on his own local event because he thinks no one would come. He'll probably be offended at me for pointing this out but... There don't seem to be ANY conditions under which he could come to a vintage event.
- P.S.- It was Me who won the Scuba Wind Chime at SheriffDiver Ron's door prize giveaway. That was really FUN Ron. Thanks for making the dive trip even more fun. Let's schedule a couple more Fortune trips this Summer! - P.S.S. - SwimJim had some good advice for us early on... "Bring Food". I don't know if it's reason enough for a diver to come to an event. But it sure is nice to have Chili, Bar-B-Q, Sloppy Joes, or Brats to eat when you're cold and hungry!

Scheduled another Vintage Dive Meet at Fortune Pond Aug 13-15. Picked the date, reserved the motel rooms, it is DONE... It's that easy.
