This is Car Week in Monterey. If this doesn't cause any problems we should be able to safely get together. I thought Car Week in Monterey was this month - August. October 16th does happen to be the Monterey Beer Festival but I fail to see any downside or conflict with a vintage dive get-together.

Looks like a dive buddy of mine from Sacramento area will be in Monterey on October 16th and will join us for a dive. We met in 1985 and have stayed friends and dive buddies ever since.

The 2021 Monterey Meetup is set for Saturday, October 16 at San Carlos State Beach. I will try to be there by 7 to stake out a territory and set up a canopy and a table. I would like a show of hands in order to determine the amount of coffee and donuts to bring.

Probably take a few days driving up the coast in the van and then back down through the Paso Robles area wine country.

It looks like it's a 50/50 chance I can make that day. I'm leaving later in that week to go shark diving in the Bahamas for a week. If I come I will just drive down from Roseville for the day (3 1/2 hr drive)and leave early.

Hi folks, I just spoke with CrabbyJim to see what he has heard about attendance at the Monterey event on Sat., Oct. 16th.
So far the apathy is palatable and it is just 10 days away. It is a very long drive for us from Orange County. I really don't want to be the only diver intent on diving showing up and not have anyone to dive with. I can solo dive at home. My purpose in attending is to dive with other like-minded vintage divers (modern or classic - don't care). Is anyone else committed to attending AND diving?
Unfortunately, my friend from up north is having shoulder surgery so he is unable to attend and dive.
Appreciate any response - sorry for the rant.
Mark

Rant all ya want Hoss! As I am not diving, and therefore not much fun to just hang out, I shan't be attending. We usually eat at the Russian cafe for lunch too, but eating indoors to me is not a good idea: yes, chances are not high of contracting COVID, even if I am vaccinated, but stupid things have a way of happening... Let's discuss this at the next zoom meeting. Mark is the only person who wants to dive for certain (I see the doctor on October 15 and if he clears me I will dive) and response has been tepid, at best. If nobody else is planning to show up the event will be cancelled.

Hey Jim,
I had hoped to make it for this dive. I'll be helping my son move to LA that weekend.
Good Dives, Charlie

I think it's a good idea to schedule for another weekend. I can't make it, either.

I never weighed in on this because I didn't want to say I'd be there and then not be able to join in after all. I was looking forward to being at the event, and was planning to do so; but, as it turns out, a couple of my cousins from far corners of the country (one of whom I have never met) picked that weekend to come to the bay area to visit my family. Needless to say, that takes priority.

I was so looking forward to a Monterey vintage dive. We have had a decent turnout in years past and a number of folks turned up to actually dive. This time it was all talk and no action. I do understand that folks have lives and no one can do everything. Plus we do have that global pandemic thingy which gives pause to certain plans. Guess I'm just disappointed. I had arranged to drive north from So. Cal. on Thursday, spend the night visiting at Sam Miller's house in Pismo, then take the coast highway up to Monterey on Friday. Looking at making a dive at Jade Cove on the way. I just cancelled with Sam. The wife and I made other plans. Next time I'm in Monterey I'll post my schedule and see if anyone is available to go for a dive. I do so like to dive Metridium Fields. Everyone stay safe. Mark

Based on the responses posted to date, the 2021 Monterey Meet-Up is cancelled. Perhaps Mark can plan one for Southern California sometime after the oil spill is cleared up.
I am amazed that we can't get people to come to one of the world's best dive spots for a vintage dive event while vintage dive enthusiasts will flock to a muddy pond in the Mid-West (no offense intended to the group at Fortune Pond) to dive, show off their gear and have a good time.
P.S. The weather here is fabulous right now. Warm days, cool nights and great visibility above and below the surface of the ocean.
