Looks nice, and I appreciate your interest and efforts! Can't wait to try it out! I think there are going to be some Trieste owners knocking on your door. What is the diameter of the plate? Friction plate is 1 5/8 inch (plus the lip that seals it into the silicone).

Friction plate is 1 5/8 inch (plus the lip that seals it into the silicone). That should be perfect. (it looked larger in the photo)

Here is my Trieste II. It sports a home-made diaphragm that I have been using since the late 1990s. IMG_0013 by John Ratliff, on Flickr This diaphragm (LP) has a fabric-impregnated with neoprene and a plate glued onto it from an older diaphragm. Nevertheless, it has been working effectively for thirty years now. BUT, if there is a good alternative, I would also be in the market for it. John

Short update on Diaphragms:
Bill has the prototype in hand, so far looks promising but identified a weak point. He's going to make a quick and dirty repair to continue testing, and I'm adjusting the mold as we speak to address the issue.
I think we are close.

He's going to make a quick and dirty repair to continue testing, and I'm adjusting the mold as we speak to address the issue. I think we are close. YES, it is very promising! Breathing performance on the test stand meets my high expectations. The beaded rim fits well into the cans, whereas the Voit original is a bit too small in diameter making it hard to keep in place when assembling (as mentioned by some Trieste owners). The height and general shape of the new diaphragm is also correct, and even being a bit taller as I requested it still works with my modified duckbill eliminator in place. We expected that the prototype would be a starting point, and that some tweaking would likely be needed. So far only minor issues are noted that can James can readily take care of. Great job James!

Ahhh. A modified DBE. That's interesting! I dislike duckbills.

Ahhh. A modified DBE. That's interesting! I dislike duckbills. I don't care much for Duckbills either. Duckbill eliminators are kinda scarce for now, but I did have one left for this special occasion thanks to VDH. Here's the good looking prototype diaphragm from Death Wish Engineering, and the slightly modified DBE installed in the Trieste. This is going to be good.

They both look great! My "been kicking around the parts drawer" DBE is about to get modded!

Another new "Trieste" awaiting a certain part.... The first stage hasn't been rebuilt yet. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the filter off without breaking it.

I hate the fact that this whole experience is making me want to find a Trieste for myself now, lol.

Hello everyone, I was finally able to go diving with the TRIESTE that Phil sent me. It makes three weeks that the reg arrives to my home. I hadn't dived in double pipes for more than a month and a half, in recent weeks I used an XTX200 and a LEGEND for deep dives with friends. So it took me a few minutes to find my feet. The first minutes I found the TRIESTE quite hard to inhale (more than one month without DH in my mouth), but in the end, I find it close to my DA equipped with a cyclone and an HPR. I had no problems during the dive, apart from the water in my dry gloves. I went down to 55f (the maximum on this site) and the water temperature was 46°F I am very happy with this first dive with a TRIESTE. I had the day before controlled the TRIESTE, and the TITAN II, and after almost 40 minutes I go out off water.

Welcome to the board, Fred! It's great that you signed up.
I'm glad the dive went well and you kept your promise to dive with the Titan II second. I was (and still am) concerned about that too small diaphragm.
You should experiment with unscrewing the second stage a bit to lessen the cracking effort, if you can. Try half turns until it leaks, then screw it in a half turn. We can also try a slightly longer lever.

As the yoke seems not done for 3000 psi, i begin the dive with 2500psi/175bar
