Hey folks,
Does anybody know if there is a modern replacement for the diaphragms used in SP109 second stages? I know there’s a modern diaphragm used for healthways regs, would it fit?

Hey TD
The Healthways diaphragm will not fit a SP 2nd stage, but any diaphragm from a SP G250 will work fine. You should have no problem finding a new one from any SP diveshop.
109 is a lovely regulator. A beautiful piece of design and engineering. Enjoy!

Andrew, actually TD is correct! For a very short time, HW and SP used the same sized diaphragm, not the ones you have though... Check it out bruddah These HW's are my least favorite, and I don't collect them. I want to say they were from 1969 to 1970... JB

Curse you JB! There I was feeling so knowledgeable!!
I think I might have once put an old diaphragm from an Apex 2nd stage in one of my 109s and it worked just fine. But then I’ve got a death wish.

Of all the 2ns stages I have put back together (which is not much compared to a lot of others here) the Scubapro 109 has been the challeging for me so far. I have a couple more cached away that I need to get back working. Mark

Andrew, JB, and Mark thank you for your assistance. The 109 looks challenging from the outside but in reality it’s not so bad. Easier to adjust than 1085 USD second stages thanks to that volcano orifice that is adjustable.
I don’t think my local SP dealer will be able to help me on this one. The diaphragms look decent but I’d prefer new ones since this is supposed to be a high performance regulator. The diameter is approximately 74mm when measured with verniers. Ebait has 75mm diaphragms and the 1mm/40 thou shouldn’t matter. I strongly doubt these diaphragms have exact tolerances and are more “open” in their tolerances. Diaphragms stretch and compress and take shape so it should take set if gently heated and left in the SP109 case. Perhaps in a plastic bag in a car?
But, if anyone has links to G250 or similar diaphragms please drop them below.

If you don't have joy finding the right diaphragm, you can contact me. Otherwise of course it should be much easier to find a R190/G250 (not V) diaphragm directly from a SP Dealer ( 11.300.008). It shows anyway by far the best performance in comparison with the older diaphragm models for 108HPs and 109s.
