John,
I haven't forgotten about your Mouthpiece Y adapter... I'm just fighting a broken printer (the one that is capable of getting a good print of the part I need to make for you).
Regarding the MR12 vibration... I'm curious if it is like how some regs will "honk" in air, but it goes away in the water. Or, if being damped by water against the diaphragm and around the hose will smooth it out.
Respectfully,
James

James,
This morning I conducted another test, using the same protocol except I totally removed the hose loop from the DA Aqualung. I also filled up the utility room water basin with water, and used the MR-12 III underwater for the test.
Guess what? It worked just fine, with no vibrations when underwater. HooYa for the concept!
John
PS, it breathed nicely too!

Hey John, Can you post photos of what you did? I don't quite get what you're doing with this... Thanks!

Hey John, Can you post photos of what you did? I don't quite get what you're doing with this... Thanks! Instead, I'll just describe it. As I did yesterday, I took the whole hose look off my DA Aqualung regulator. It is equipped with a Hope-Page mouthpiece. Here's a photo of the two second stages I use with the DA Aqualung. IMG_1284 by John Ratliff, on Flickr The MR-12 III second stage is tho bottom one. I put the MR-12 III second stage on my Mossback Mk III regulator, which normally has a U.S. Divers Company second stage, moved the rig (single 72) into the utility room where I had filled the basin with water. I then put the intake hose on the MR-12 III second stage mouthpiece tube, lowered it into the water, and inhaled. It was a pretty simple setup, and it worked very well in the water. Yesterday, when I did that but out of water, the diaphragm got quite a drastic vibration associated with any inhalation. But it did not do that when I inhaled on it without the hose loop (normal inhalation). So out of water there may be fluxuations with the air movement due to that special Venturi tube. 'Hope that makes it clearer. John

So you simply pushed the intake hose over the MR12 mouthpiece tube, connected the MR12 to a first stage, and breathed off the mp? No exhaust connection, right?

So you simply pushed the intake hose over the MR12 mouthpiece tube, connected the MR12 to a first stage, and breathed off the mp? No exhaust connection, right? Yes, that is correct. I simply used the non-returns in the mouthpiece to ensure that I was breathing off the second stage, and it worked pretty well. It was a very quick and "dirty" experiment to make sure that the concept would work. Now, when I get the "Y" connector, I will use it to hook up the Dacor Enduro second stage, and will exhale through the diaphragm's non-return mushroom valve. Yes, there will be the potential for inhaling some of the exhaust, but with the non-returns in the mouthpiece, that should be minimal. Also, if I want I could put a wagonwheel in the exhalation hose near the mouthpiece to further reduce this potential, but I don't feel at this time that this will be necessary. A will also probably experiment with the MR-12 III second stage, and simply hook it up in the same manner as the Dacor Enduro. Because the exhaation valve is not in the diaphragm on this second stage, I'll have to pay attention to the orientation of the second stage, to ensure that the exhalation valve is below the diaphragm in most diving positions. But again, I think this will work too. John

OK, I get it. Thanks for the clarification. I think the exhaust part will factor in by a lot, so further efforts need to reflect a complete circuit. If you and James make the Y connector and get this mod working, please keep us informed. I don't doubt it has legs!

To bring that into context: Joey, singer and Dee Dee Ramone bassist... JB My late 70s and 80s experience. If you are with me, who is the only band that matters? The Ramones were good, but it's not them. The Clash was the only band that mattered. According to them?

Hi Jerry! What is your "wow" referring to? The Clash, the Ramones, or the single-double?
