Has anyone actually had hands on experience with the Mentor.
Of particular interest is the HP nozzle and t4he components inside. I am guessing they are using conshelf parts. But I am interested in the material the Hp seat is made of.
Anyone with some hands on, my inquiring mind is bursting to know........Pop!

An e-mail to Aqualung would be faster.

I think that's what he meant, John... US Divers/Aqualung - same thing. Kent Rockwell knows the Mentor inside and out. We have him pictured with one on this page: www.vintagescubasupply.com/gallery4.htmlHe is also a member of this forum, but he doesn't hang out here much. Perhaps you could contact him directly.

Thank you.. I have the mentor manual as well. I know ther are some parts which the old RAm used. I am trying to find out what is supposed to make it a great breather. Is it because it has newer lighter better designed components than the RAM, or is it some new revolutionary design which we cannot see properly in the manual?
Dont get me wrong. I love my RAMS, they are tuned to perfection and breath great. JUst looking for comparison. Hard to dig up specs on this reg

I read on one of the Forums that the Mentor was available. The information originated in Canada, as I recall.
I went to a dive shop here in Australia and ordered one. The distributor called back with a price quote of $1995 AUD, about $1500 USD. Later the shop called to check on the order, and got the local sales representative. He said the US Navy has not yet signed off on approval for commercial sales.
Has anyone had any experience with this?

Ther was a fella in canada said he could get some around 2 grand a pop, but that is serious coin for what could end up being a more mordern version of a Royalk Aquamaster

As far as I have heard there is no big performance gain over a Royal. The biggest difference is the addition of LP and HP ports and replacement of the duckbill with a mushroom valve. They were developed for re-breather training and were intended to be a maintainable option to replace an aging arsenal of mostly Nemrod Snarks that were in use prior. I don't think that performance was ever a motivating factor. I have heard the rumors of availability but the head of military sales at Aqualung told me personally that there was no intention of offering them to the consumer market. -Ryan
