Hi Linda and all. The things you suggest are a little over my head, I'm a little guy anyway, but they sound very very good to me. I think that if you make some, they would be excellent and something we would be proud to carry in our wallets and in our Hearts too. The idea of seeing my Card and it saying "I am a Vintage Diver", well, I have not gotten a feeling like this since I won my Airborne Wings in the Army in 1969. This is great. William

Just a thought...if you do it on the printer, instead of having separate loose front and back pieces which would need to be aligned for laminating, you could make the front and back in one piece which could be folded over along one side. A little easier to handle, perhaps. One side of the completed card would need to appear "up-side-down" in order to be right-side-up in relation to the other side when folded. I don't know if I'm making this clear, but it would be obvious once undertaken.
I was just over at vintagedoublehose and it looks like the cards are a go and in the process of being made.

Hey, William - good to see you here! Head on over to Bryan's if you haven't done so already and let him know you want a card. Good idea on the printing, Terry... They make folded business cards like that. I wonder if that method would make a little "ridge" on the folded side... I have made art cards in the past using your technique, but they are not something I have ever had to get a plastic coating on or have laminated. I have a paper cutter that is very sharp and can be wickedly accurate... I make final cuts with it and edges align perfectly! Anyway... neither here nor there, I guess. I can't help being inventive/creative... I love discussing how things are made, etc. Always wanting to find a way to make things myself!

I believe the Inland Divers Vintage Dive Club already has cards with member numbers, etc. although they aren't full color like this... ? I don't know. Wouldn't be hard to make, though. I'm Inland Divers Vintage Dive Club member number 23. They are monochrome cards but are nicely done with an Aqualung logo flanked by a pair of trident weilding double hose divers.

The version being done with vintage double hose is being done as a plastic credit card size if I am not mistaken. If you are doing the paper version, you need only pribnt the whole card on one side, front and back side by side, cut along dotted line, laminate and its done.
However, a hard plastic card does look better than a library card style laminate.
just mny two cents worth. My original padi card in 1968 was a laminate, it didnt last long..about two eyars before it self destructed.

Just let me add one thing and my opinion strictly, self explanatory on this board since this is a real vintage board with real vintage divers but for anyone who is just passing through----these cards are not for your hamster or gerbil or your Aunt Mae. Since a few people have undertaken this at expense to themselves in time and money for the enjoyment of the vintage community let us all help to prevent them from being taken advantage of by unscrupuous individuals--should any happen by. Many of us have met or have conversed at length on this board and the other, we know who we are and for newcomers it does not really take anything more than to join in and introduce yourself. No big deal but after the people at scubaboard thought they were going to get free cards for a joke you understand why I am making this admittedly opinionated post---vintage divers and collectors only please. Well said, James. I understand your concern. Just to put your mind at ease as far as Keith (creaturedude) - he is retired Navy and still works with SEALS in a mentor program (if I understand it rightly...) I think he is new to the vintage collecting/diving thing, but he is "for real". Carry on.

Oh gosh, sorry if I came across as singling out creaturedude. I had not even seen his post so please belivee me that I was not thinking of him. Yes, I saw his post in the welcome section and I would like to wecome him also---yes he is the real deal and I am sorry if it appeared I was aiming at him--no, I was not. It was a general for whom it may concern post with no subject person in mind.
And, welcome creaturedude, glad to have you. You need to swap stories with SeaRat so we can read all about your adventures. Thanks for joining in.
Also, no, I doubt a black card can be made. We all get the same thing as I understand it, we voted on it a while back and this is the card design that won. It is not the one I voted for but it won so I am backing it, they are going to be excellent. James

... It is not the one I voted for but it won so I am backing it, they are going to be excellent. James That's funny because it's not the card I voted for either. But like you said I also fully support it and think that it is a great design and will be excellent. Finally, I greatly appreciate the hard work and personal time devoted by a select few to make this card available for the rest of us.

Okay, sorry, James. My bad.... I thought since he was the only new guy in this thread that maybe he was why you brought it up... I just wanted to introduce you, but if you saw him in the welcome section, well, then you've met! Sorry. Carry on again.

Got my NAVED yesterday, and it looks GREAT, Bryan did a real good job on them. Linda maybe you could make a color card for our Inland Divers Vintage Dive Club, it would be like the one we have, but in color. Just an idea. Frans (Master Diver) By the way, membership in our Club is open to anyone that dives with vintage gear. We are centered in MN and Wisc. but we have members from around the country. There are no dues or fees. All I need is your name and mailing address and email address + you would need to log on to our club web site at Yahoo groups.

Sure, Frans, I would be happy to do that. Email me the art you are using now. Or I can ask #7 (or is he #8) to show me the card and we'll go from there.
