The demand valve housing (#17) in the Scuba Star regulator actually had a hole directed at the mouthpiece. The Scubamaster and the IDI version used the Venturi tube to maximize the air flow.
The exhaust weight simply slides down onto the mushroom when the diver is head-down, placing just a bit of pressure on it, so as to neutralize the water column difference. This allows very close balancing of the IP air with the demand, without bubbling in certain positions.

Hello John
The compensation shoud work properly . The weight added inertia to the exhalevalve . Does this causes oscilation or vibration ?
Greetings Rainer

Hello John
That's god news . The freeflow compensation with weights give more freedom in the design of the exhalevalve .
Greetings Rainer

Hi John. Thanks for providing this information to us. I’m happy, but not surprised that the Calypso VI is in group A. It’s the same as the Calypso’s III and IV, but with the brass crown that holds the seat in place. These generation Calypso’s are my favorite single hose regulators and I have been using them for decades. They are super easy to service. The only potential downside is that the HP seats are no longer available. That said, the HP seat in my Calypso IV is the original one when it was new in the 70’s. This regulator has over 1500 dives since new and still works flawlessly with simple o-ring replacement, cleaning and tuning. In addition to its reliability, as the Navy evaluation revealed, this regulator is also an easy breather. I have other brands of regulators, but I always grab my Calypso first. Those hp seats last nearly forever, but I have new old stock seats available if you ever need one.
