I have been diving twin hose regulators since the fifties and a new to me USD '05 Mistral breathes terrible when swimming horizontal. Is there a method of using this reg without separating the Titan first stage from the 2nd/Exhaust and positioning the 2nd/exhaust in front of your chest? MP is gauged at 9.4bars, in spec.
Again I have never had a worst breathing twin hose performance while swimming horizontal. Looks cool, but function before form!
Thanks...

US Divers gave me one of the new mistrals back in 2006. They breath like sucking through a garden hose while sitting at the bottom of a pool. Not much you can do about it. I did see a guy one time who chest-mounted the reg, sealed off the HP intake, and ran a LP hose from a LP port back up to a LP port on a conshelf 1st stage attached to the tank. He said it worked kinda but breathing still was bad. They make great paperweights! 👀

Thanks for the candor and sharing your experience...yah, it is pretty, but the beauty is "skin deep"..I have several twin hose regs that beat this thinly vailed imitation. Like your avatar photo...hmmmm, a lawyer posing as a Remora....there is a wise ass commentary about that but I will let it slide.. . Thanks again, Phil [retired DSO]

Thanks for the welcome, appreciated...yes, I am an old dog, but I can learn new tricks! Does anybody know the specific reason the "new" Mistral [05-06'] design does not work? 1st and 2nd stages together at tank valve is basically the same design as my array of two hose 'vintage' USD regs. They work ,some better than others, and you can swim forward horizontally and still have acceptable breathing resistance; not so with 'new' design. Why does the new Mistral design not work? Thanks in advance... DSO
