I think my problem is drilling the puck. I don't have a drill press so I might not have the hole straight.

Problem is even with a drill press and a jig to centre the puck precisely on-axis it will tend to want to climb up the drill and produce an egg-shaped hole. Usually the drill flute angles need to be modified to prevent that happening.
Possibly using a slot drill at high speed would work... but the best way is to compression mould them with the hole produced concentrically each shot. Usually 500 is only a little more expensive than 100, its the tool that is expensive!

That is a problem I encountered, even with a drill press. These tiny bits will wander!
It's important to understand that the poppet stem flare, which has to be big enough to keep the puck from sliding up the post, has to be small enough to fit INSIDE the volcano orifice and leave enough soft puck surface to interface with the rim of the volcano.
If the puck isn't centered, there might be a poor puck/rim interface, and a leak might occur.

Can someone measure a new style poppet shaft and post the size, please?

OK, that's pretty small. I will stick with my old style poppet mod. I'm not concerned with complexity/cost for my own regs, I just needed a poppet that works!
Just so I didn't have to drill out an OEM part, I made and plated a new guide/cover with the larger opening for the Silver that was missing the LP poppet. It's fussy but do-able.
I know that most folks can't make these parts, so this is just FYI.
It'd be great if these parts became available again.....

So the new style co-moulded poppets won't fit the older Snarks using the multi-piece style because the old style cover guide hole is too large?

Yes. The big end that fits in the guide is just under 4mm diameter. A new cover or some way of filling and redrilling the guide hole is needed. A threaded insert? JBWeld?

Hmm... I think it would need to be a new custom part for 100% drop in fit and the old style reg body stays original. That way any new co-moulded poppet fits late Snark IIIs as-is or earlier models with a new custom guide and late model pin.

Hello,
As I work on the old model, I make few photos of one crappy silver in pieces.
So you can sea the differences between these two generations
Take a look on the second stage crown
Cheer's
