James just sent me some really good 3D Dacor boxes. They are not resin, but very sturdy! The bottom box has a masterfully designed DBE. I installed a conversion first/second stage in the boxes, and everything looks really good. James designed the horn openings inside the boxes round instead of flattened like OEM, so the second stage jet shoots right down the old kazoo. It worked very well when I hooked it up to a tank. I might need to work on the second stage jets or replace the single stage lever with a split one, but these boxes are awesome! The plain cover will work well on my coverless R-2! I'd love to see them in resin!

I took some sand paper to the bottom box today to do some smoothing. I didn't get very far with it. I also cut 6 filister head stainless steel 6-32 screws to fit the boxes. It isn't going to smooth out to look like a die cast part, but that doesn't matter to me. I just want to make sure the sealing surfaces will keep the water out. The box flanges where the diaphragm sits are probably fine as is. I'm a little concerned about the horns, which are relatively rough. I think smoothing them down some at the ends ought to do it. I'm wondering if these should be painted. Any suggestions on a color? It's going to get the 2020 label. If you don't know what that looks like, see here: vintagescuba.proboards.com/thread/5994/dacor-2020?page=2

Phil, if you choose/find a color, I can paint them for you when when I come by to work on the Scubairs. Get enamel paint, not automotive touch-up-paint. Hmmmmmm? How totally cool would it look in glow-in-the-dark paint!
