We've been getting pounded in California with wind and rain. We lost power for about five hours this afternoon, but they got it back on again--WHEW! All this rain should be good for fishing this year though: I've got some old gear that I'm wanting to use, 1890's and early 1900's.
Anyway, just thought I should post something, get some bubbles blowing,

JB, I don’t think you are out of the woods (rain-wise) yet. I’ve heard that there is more coming. Best wishes, and I hope the electricity stays on.

I read a book by the light coming through the front window, and listened to our Victrola: this one's from 1921 so it's wind a up. You get three songs per needle/stylus and adjust the volume by the type of needle as well as varying the doors in front of the horn.

DRW, I find the best thing to do is try to be Zen about it, AKA, "We'll burn that bridge when we get there" JB

My daughter who lives in San Francisco lost power yesterday afternoon and came over about 7AM today to spend the day with us (with the grandbaby---score!). On her way, she saw old, big cypress trees down near her house at Balboa Park, some falling on and destroying cars. At about 5PM she heard her power was back on and packed up to go home.
It's raining a little again. Squalls seem to be happening all over the Bay. We're used to drought! I've rarely seen this much rain in the Bay Area.

Storms in California are sorta like car wrecks: if you can walk away from them, you're usually in pretty good shape It's my understanding the Sierra Nevada got over three feet of snow in one night-- HEE-YIKES!

I’m going to assume that JayBird will be here intermittently until things get settled in California. I’ve seen some of the reporting on mud slides and flooding, and it appears to be extensive.

I know I'm very fortunate to have a real house to ride this stuff out in: some people don't and that would be very scary right now It's been getting cold now too The problem is that it's a moist cold, where the air is damp, it permeates everything: hypothermia is a constant and real threat here. Stay safe out there JB

It was COLD yesterday. Wind was howling, too.
Today was beautiful, in the 60s. I took a 4 mile hike on a nice trail today. Not too muddy. We should get a few good days until next Thursday.
Superbowl coming up. 49ers and Kansas or something? I'm going to a friend's house. My interest is the shrimp and pigs-in-a-blanket with an icy IPA.
Go 9ers?

Where should they go, just away? We usually have a picnic that day at the shoreline: it's always quiet JB

OK, my wife's decided that Sunday will be the Seagull Bowl: We have a fish-subscription, that being, once a month we get shipped a box of fish from Alaska. Well, it was kinda late this time, and the dry-ice melted and the fish wasn't safe to eat. The company suggested that you ether compost it, or take it to a bird rehab center. We don't have any near us, so we're going down to the Hayward Shoreline and throw the pieces in areas where our bird friends can eat it. We'll need to be quick about it as shore birds can become very aggressive when it comes to food: they're not quite like raptors when it comes to do damaging flesh, but shouldn't be trifled with either. As a side note, we just found out our niece made the Dean's List when she graduates this spring, which is no small task considering she has major learning disabilities! JB

Kinda like the feeding frenzy when the pigs-in-a-blanket are laid out!

JB,
It sounds from news reports that you in California are getting hit again by an “atmospheric river.” Stay dry, my friend.
