Wow, JB, you posted a great video. What a lot of even us divers don't realize is that Operation Ivy Bells was the result of all the SeaLab experiments. SeaLab III was deemed a failure due to the death of Aquanaut Berry Cannon, and the shutting down of the SeaLab III experiment. But the U.S. Navy had been building into the USS Halibut the ability to have saturation divers, and used it to put a pod onto that Soviet underwater cable. The cabel was at a depth that the Soviets thought it was not at risk, and so they sent communications through it unencripted. For 10 years we were then listening to unencripted Soviet communications.
