Fortune Pond June 2024 Dive Report
- A pretty ambitious dive trip, we planned 3 full days of diving. The 3rd day we cancelled due to steady rain. But we got two good dive days and 5 dives. Here are some of the photos and events...
- Remembering that we're "Vintage" divers, I thought you all might like to see the four sets of Twin 38s I filled with 30.2% Nitrox. A lot of people don't know that, as long as the gas is less than 40% O2, you can use it in regular diving tanks with normal regulators. I blend 40% in O2 clean cylinders and use that to blend 30% in my Twin 38s.
- There was no vacancy at our usual motel in Iron River but we secured a room at the BigFoot Motel in Crystal Falls. Room was small but clean and well equipped... Very reasonably priced too. I title this photo "Red Sky at Night, Sailors Delight". And sure enough the first day was excellent weather. Second day was on and off rain and drizzle. 3rd day solid rain.
- Here's me and Rich enjoying cocktails and watching the sunset our first night.
-Here's me after a terrific 1st dive, I spent about 30 minutes in 60-80 feet depth and 41 degrees F temperature. Yes I was plenty cold but the sun came out and warmed me back up just fine.
- Here's Rich getting ready for his first dive. Rich uses a beautiful set of Twin Aluminum 50s.
- Here's me warming up in the sun between dives.
- The second day (Friday) our friend Tony joined us from Wausau.
- Here's Rich suiting up to dive the 2nd day. On and off rain and drizzle made warming up difficult.
- Momma turtle walked by after laying her eggs somewhere...
- My "Vintage" Coltri MCH-6 compressor was one of the first they manufactured in the early 1980s. It sat for a long time near Traverse City Michigan. I bought it for $200 a few years ago. Had to do some fixing and updating but it pumps nice clean air. We topped up some tanks for diving on the third day but got rained out.
- Rich made me sit next to his new skeleton friend on the way home.
