I don't know about you, but I've been enjoying Shark Week this week on Discovery Channel. I notice that most of the serious divers are using the long free diving fins that were developed in the 1980s. Also, there is communication! I promoted this concept of providing divers the ability to talk to each other in the early 1970s, and my concept was to have a wired unit much like our intercom in helicopters to talk to one another on a hard line communications loop. That never took off, and I had not the financials or the time to develop the concept. But watching these videos, the talking (while somewhat over the top on excitement) is really a centerpiece of these shows now. Also, there are a lot of FFMs being used now, some by Ocean Reef. Here's the upcoming schedule for the rest of the week: www.discovery.com/shark-week/scheduleHere's one of the Ocean Reef FFMs: diving.oceanreefgroup.comBut, there is a lot of free diving in this series too, that we pioneered in the 1960s and 1970s. Most of these films are now emphasizing the science behind shark research rather than the sensationalism that I've seen in the past. John
