Dear Community, I hear that the USD Royal Mistral is rare. Is this true? There's a guy I know who wants $300 Canadian ($265 US) for his. Is this a good price? Before I would have bought it, but I have recently acquired a Royal Aqua Master, a UD Mistral and two single hose Healthways (I'm catching the vintage bug) and my wife is starting to look a little tense.
I have just gotten back into diving after many years. I tried my Royal Aqua Master yesterday. This was the first time I have used a two hose reg and I loved it. There was no problem clearing it and the mouthpiece was so accessable. My dive buddies laughed at first, but had to admit they thought it was pretty cool after. They started calling me Jacque Cousteau.
Also, I found someone who was selling twin Catalina tanks for $100. This included the manifold and straps. I regret that they are not vintage (3years old), but it seemed like a deal. Does anyone know anything about these tanks?
Sincerely, Stephen

There is a whole thread on the Royal Mistral that should give you all the info you need. As to the tanks, that seems like a very good price for 2 alum tanks (80's ) with manifold still in hydro. What type of manifold?? But to answer your question, Catalina tanks are fine, almost identical to Luxfer's. I have 2 Catalina 80s and 2 Luxfers and you cant tell them apart. John

Yes, The USD Royal Mistrals are rare. The major problem is parts are unavailable for it. I recently worked on one trying to make a new seat but was unsuccesful. Don't buy one unless you want it for display in a collection. You may find one in diveable condition but without parts you may not be able to keep it useable.

Stephen,
If you can get it for a reasonable price, and maybe nogotiate with the owner based on the above information, I'd get it if I were you. Royal Mistrals are exceedingly rare, and if you have a working one, all the better. But I would be very careful with it after buying it.
