Does anyone have any thoughts on the Dacor Clipper 3? There is 1 of those plus a Dacor Diving Lung Double Diaphram. I'd be interested in which 1 breaths better, and would either be a good candidate to use on a regular basis.
My collection is growing slowly, but it's about time for something new. . . . . . Well new to me.

Don't know about the Clipper. I do own a Dacor Diving lung W/ Dial a breath. It makes a nice display, but a rather poor breather. If your looking for something to actually use that can be had relatively inexpensive, I'd look for a Gold label Heathway's. I own one of those and it breathes pretty well. You can usually score one for less then a hundred bucks. Pretty much anything from Aqualung will perform well and as a bonus, most parts are still availble. I have a DA Aquamaster and a DA "Navy" that I sent into Dan for rebuilding. They are both sweet breathers. Now if I could just find a mushroom valve for my Snark III.........Good luck with your collection and dive safe!

bsea,
The Dacor's have the potential of being good regs, however, it appears Dacor did not carry the refinements to that point.
I have a R-4 and a C-3n........both have unbalanced first stages. The second stage does not have a venturi, just a large undirected opening. It relies on a large shaped inhale horn that appears to give a mild venturi effect.......the second stage also expends a good portion of its jet blast of air against the wall of the can instead having it directed down the horn like a good USD DA or RAM does.......
There is also no fine tune adjustment on the second stage as found on the voits and usd's.....not sure of healthways.......
The dial a breath is just a vane that slows down the air that is needed.....its a joke.......
the R4 has the second diaphgram with a exhaust valve on it....I believe this takes away the sensitivity of the primary diaphgram.....I replaced mine with a duckbill like the one on the C3..........
The hoses are fabric reinforced and are similar to a radiator hose, pretty stiff. Dia is same or close to the USD hose, but the valves at the mouth piece are smaller.........
If you have the time, a good machinest and funds, fixing these problems can be done,,,,,,,,,it's fun anyway..........

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just keep my eyes open for a Snark III Siver or a RAM. I currently have a Snark III Super and a DA.

Hey bsea I had a chance to use many of the different Vintage Double Hose Regulators I won and had rebuilt in the last year. I was amazed at two of them. My Aqua-Lung DW Mistral was a Fantastic breather. So was my Voit (Blue) 50 Fathom. I was extremely impressed with their easy breathing qualities. William

The quest for a new (Old) reg continues. I just saw the Davinci Code. I think Tom's quest was easier than mine.
Thanks for the info William. I've been looking for a Mistral for awhile. Either I miss them on ebay, or get out bid. I've been looking at Voits some also, but I'll do a more concentrated search for them in the future.
