I have been doing at least one dive a week with my vintage stuff. After years of diving with a BCD it has taken a little practice to dive with just a backpack, I find that I am neutrally buoyant right around 30 feet, I believe that diving with my older equipment will actually improve my diving skills. I alternate between one of my DA Aquamasters and one of my Mistrals. I have noticed that when my tank gets low (just before I have to pull the "J" valve rod) I am hearing a slight constant free flow out of the regulator. I assume that I set the IP with too high of tank pressure. I have a set of band clamps on order, once I get those I will reset the IP. I am getting tired of removing the C clips to work on the regulators. I may get band clamps for all of them. My vintage regulators do not breath quite as good as my Mares V32, however they do breath as well if not better than some rental regulators that I have used. One of the best things that happen when I use my "old" stuff is the reaction from other divers, who haven't a clue what some of this stuff is. I have also gotten a better understanding of regulator technology.... both double hose and single hose.

I dare say you will find the RAM will breath as well or better than your Mares...........if you pick one up or convert your DA when Luis's new nozzles hit the market late this fall you will see the difference.........
I just returned early last month from Cozumel, dove with my RAM, first time in salt water in 30 + years with a double hose. It functioned as well as my Tekna 2100 which I also used and which out breathes most other single hosers.
Most folks under 40 didn't know what I had.........the Mexican dive master and boat captian were fasinated with my RAM, had never seen one or heard about them..........and Captian Caustoue (sp) brought sport diving to their reefs using Mistrals.......go figure......
